Re: Lord of the rings

AFAIK its been confirmed for HD DVD, although that was for earlier this year and no sign of it yet. The release was also going to be the original theatrical versions and not the special editions.

Should also be on BR also as New Line aren't a HD DVD exclusive...

Re: Lord of the rings

They should really do the extended versions rather then the original theatricle ones. The other option would to have the ability to watch either through an option in the menus. It's been done before on DVD so there is no reason why it can't be done on blu-ray/HD-DVD.

Re: Lord of the rings

LOTR is New Line who are at present format neutral. Certainly earlier this year it was expected to be on both formats around Christmas time.

No word on what will be released but I would think they will release theatrical versions first, extended versions later for no other reason that to milk consumers of the most amount of money possible. Not nice but it's what businesses do.

Re: Lord of the rings

I'd snap these up in a second on either HD format.

Though I wont buy until the full extended cuts are released!

snap.

I'm now so used to the SE's that when one of the theatrical versions is on the TV I start thinking they've been chopping stuff out.

Re: Lord of the rings

Same here! I don't see any point in buying any other version apart from the extended ones. I can't wait! I just hope it comes out on Blu-ray as thats the only format I can play at the moment.

Re: Lord of the rings

I currently only have a HD-DVD player. If LOTR came to Blue-Ray next week, I'd buy a player just for them......

I really wish there was some news on the release of these films.

Can this be done? They can't just cut out the additional scenes because the entire score was redone too...

Re: Lord of the rings

The latest edition on DVD had both the original and extended via seamless branching.I'm not sure if for the moment that is feasible on Blu,maybe for HD-DVD.
And I'm on the same page as people here,if it's the Theatrical Edition I won't buy.Not for It's lack of quality but I have become so accustomed to the EE that I couldn't watch the Theatrical if I tried.Besides, the EE is more rich.
This is number one on my Hi Def list.

Re: Lord of the rings

I am with you guys in that i would only buy the extended edition.

For the sole reason that i know if i brought the standard edition i would end up also buying the extended, and that would be a waste of money.

I managed to hold out on DVD (only got the 3 extended versions) so should be ok.

Re: Lord of the rings

A Blu-Ray/HD DVD Box set of all three extended editions (just like the Standard DVD one) would be great...

Come on New Line, we are waiting !!!
