A much as I would love it to be true I’m rather dubious of this news. Something does not add up here, and Blu-ray.com’s source for this news seems to be a minor reference on page 22 of this weeks Home Media Magazine which casually mentions The Jungle Book for release on both DVD and Blu-ray on the 2nd of October. In the same a magazine on pages 4 and 5 is a double page advertisement from Disney showcasing upcoming DVDs and Blu-ray releases for the fourth quarter, and Jungle Book is only promoted for DVD.

Until Disney confirm this themselves I’m going to treat it as Blu-ray.com (which is only a fansite after all) jumping the gun. Since, less than 24hrs ago, we’ve just had a press release from Disney hyping Sleeping Beauty as the first Blu-ray release of one of their platinum animated classics (to be released toward the end of 2008) then it would be somewhat bizarre for them to suddenly contradict themselves by actually releasing The Jungle Book this October. I’d be incredibly happy if it were true however…

Disney Shoots Down 'Jungle Book' Blu-ray Reports

Disney says reports circulated this morning that 'Jungle Book' would be released on Blu-ray this coming October are erroneous.

While the studio is preparing a Platinum Release of 'Jungle Book' for standard-def DVD on October 2, the studio confirmed to us that no Blu-ray companion disc is planned.

It appears that the error emanated from a typo in an article published by Home Media Magazine previewing the holiday season's biggest titles. Within hours, the news appeared on various forums and web sites.

Hell yes.... I have only seen the PS3 downloaded 1080p trailers but it certainly brings animation to an all new level...... imo
