Anybody got 'The Thing' on HD DVD?
Hey. Just about to buy a HD drive for my Xbox 360 and am thinking about what films to buy first. As a massive fan I would really like to see 'The Thing' in HD. Anybody got this on HD and if so how does it compare to the SD release? Cheers.

I have this and it is an awesome transfer considering it is now nearly 26 years old, Well detailed and the colours are far more vivid and richer.
A definate must buy for fans

It's OK but has an annoying colour artefact.

I have it and frankly it gives the film the great visual and audio treatment it always deserved. I obviously didn't have my critical glasses on as I noticed no colour issues. Buy it you will not be diappointed!!

Yeah its not exactly a 'format showcase' disc, but considerig its age, if your a fan of the film its as good as it can be.

It's best seen in the snow scenes, the colour balance keeps changing quickly over a few seconds cycle.

I watched it tonight and thought it looked great. There were a couple of outdoors scenes where you could see this, but indoor scenes were superb. Great film too!

One of my favourite horror films of all time and the best transfer to date, great sound and visuals

Re: Anybody got 'The Thing' on HD DVD?
Hands down must buy! Compared it to the SD-DVD last week & the detail differences in th HD-DVD are huge. Can't wait to see Studio canals The Fog!

Shot by shot basis or a pulsing throughtout single shots?
Can't say I noticed anything "unusual" when I watched it apart from a bit of instability in the film path and some normal film grain and damage.
Would you say its a compression/video artifact or somethng "natural" ? Flickering can be caused by un ballasted light flicker interacting with the shutter angle. I've also seen gusts of blown powder snow initially look like artifacts on snowscapes.

Re: Anybody got 'The Thing' on HD DVD?
I didnt notice anything wrong with it at all last night. Considering the age of the film, and that I was watching it through the xbox, I was blow away by the level of detail.
I discovered that the Doc has a nose ring and the detail in the alien effects was a revelation. Very, very impressed.
