Yes, it is in OAR.

I have the original non-anamorphic R1 release, so for me this is the most massive jump in quality I have seen - I saw so much new detail it really was like watching the film for the first time. An excellent upgrade.

Re: Anybody got 'The Thing' on HD DVD?

This was one of my first DVD purchases way back in 1998 and likewise now with HD-DVD and like The Weird says, is a HUGE step up from the non-anamorphic DVD.

As for the film itself, it still stands up well today, although the HD isn't very forgiving with some of the SFX, but you could say the same with some CGI fx today.

A MUST buy.

Re: Anybody got 'The Thing' on HD DVD?

Sounds like Im gonna have to invest in the HD version of one of my all time favourite films as the feedback about sound and picture quality are very positive. Does anyone know where I can get a hold of it? My usual supplier, PlayUSA is sold out at the moment.

Re: Anybody got 'The Thing' on HD DVD?

probably the 'artefact' appears in some specific circumstances (combination player+tv).

and film is great! it was almost first disk i bought. and i am not disappointed.

Excellent - a big improvement over the SD DVD. Not noticed the above mentioned "artefacts".

Re: Anybody got 'The Thing' on HD DVD?

OMG! This film is amazing.

I bought it on the advice of this thread and was slightly dubious but must say I am well impressed. Good story, not overdone and the PQ is amazing for a film that is 25 years old, better than World Trade Centre which I also watched at the weekend.

All I can say guys is thanks, this one is definetely a keeper.

I sort of envy you in a way.

This is my most favourite film of all time.
Imagine if I had never seen it and just got to watch it like you did.

I'd be gobsmacked.
