HD DVDs, All This Extra Capacity But Where Are The Extras?

Hot my xb HD Drive & Kong disc yesterday and was a bit dissapointed that it was a barebones disc

Much has been said by manufacturers about the extra capacity that HD -DVD have to offer and indeed Blu Ray which constantly uses it as an 'ace card' during the on-going high def DVD war , yet most of the initial releases are just a barebones film only (according to Play.com spec)

Why? Is it because much of the original extras were shot in SD?
That's ok for some of the older releases but there's no excuse for any of the more recent stuff NOT to be shot in HD. A bit of 'forward thinking'

£18-27 for a barebones disc after all has been said is just taking the michael

Re: HD DVDs, All This Extra Capacity But Where Are The Extras?

Kevo - that's a very rare exception to HD-DVD extras with King Kong - I don't know if it was the fact that thousands were going out free with the 360 addon or the possibility of the Extended Cut HD-DVD with all the extras further down the line! lol

You just have to take a look at the extras on Mission Impossible 3 or Fast & Furious Tokyo Drift and the forthcoming double discs of World Trade Center and Clerks2 to name but a few to see the possibilities of HD-DVD......

Re: HD DVDs, All This Extra Capacity But Where Are The Extras?

Must be Play.com's inaccurate spec then as the none of the following are listed with any extras...

Appollo 13
Batman Begins
Van Helsing
Harry Potter And The Goblet Of Fire
Doom
Miami Vice (2006)

etc

A quick look on MT for BB

http://www.movietyme.com/catalog/pro...ducts_id=34106

look at the enlarged back of the box picture....lots and lots of extras. Apollo 13 the same, didn't check the others.

I think it a play issue, one of the reasons most of us have switched suppliers for HD sources. Play are just missing the plot here.

Re: HD DVDs, All This Extra Capacity But Where Are The Extras?

When DVD started out pretty much the only feature you ever got on the UK release was 'scene selection'. One of the reasons importing from the US got to be so popular.

It seems to be the same with HDDVD. The US (well, Canadian which I suspect is the same, except for the french cover) copy of KK definately has a few features... crappy ones, but features nontheless. It sounds like they've stripped them off for the UK release.

Re: HD DVDs, All This Extra Capacity But Where Are The Extras?

Yep, just popped into HMV in Picc Station, Manchester in my dinner hour to look at their tiny selection, about a half a shelf (see my other post) and yes extras a plenty on those I've listed. It seems it's Play.com are not listing the extras (they normally do with sd dvds). That clears that up.

Are the extras in HD?

Re: HD DVDs, All This Extra Capacity But Where Are The Extras?

Most extras are currently in SD I'm afraid

I think thats mainly due to them being the same as the SD DVD extras at present. Also depending on the type of extra HD may not always be warranted ; if I'm just watching some guy in a chair talking about the movie, I don't really care whether I can read the titles of the books on the shelves behind him

Re: HD DVDs, All This Extra Capacity But Where Are The Extras?

I never ever look at extras. All I want is the movie. So I never noticed it. I don't want to know how the movie was made as call me crazy but then it takes some of the magic out of it.
