Speed blu-ray

Watched this yesterday and must say it was a very impressive disc for both picture and sound. Picture was very sharp and detailed. Rock solid blacks and strong, vibrant colours. The sound was just as good. The full bitrate dts was awesome. Came close to some of the best pcm soundtracks i've heard. Can't wait for the panasonic firmware to upgrade to lossless dts. At the moment i'm enjoying my blu-ray player a little more than my hd-dvd purely because the picture quality is about equal but the sound is clearly better on blu-ray, at least to me anyway. If all fox releases have this level of quality then I for one will be buying more. Just hope they reduce the prices a bit in line with the other studios.

Re: Speed blu-ray

Speed is my favourite Dolby surround sound DVD. I've never upgraded past Dolby 2.

Re: Speed blu-ray

I finally got round to watching it last night. I've had it since PS3 release day, when I bought it in a bundle.

WOW! They've done a great job with this one.

I'm perhaps not right up there with reviewers who doll out %age scores. But I have a 'top tier', where a film must reach two criteria. Firstly it must be the sort of film that looks good in high def. Secondly, it must look as good as you could possibly expect. Speed wins out on both counts. Very sharp and crisp, great colours.

The SQ is great, too. I think this film won an Oscar sound fx editing, and the qual;ity holds through to this release. One of my favourite scenes to demo this since the LaserDisc days is near the start. The hostages are being held in the lift and there are a number of establishing shots showing police/fire brigade arriving. The montage finishes with Jack & Harry's care coming in shot over the top of your head. I always duck!

And finally, let's not forget, it's a great film. If only all action films were made this way.
