Recommend some HD DVD`S

I pre ordered the HD DVD add on for the Xbox 360. So i need some recommendations from people who have bought some HD DVD`S from Movietyme. preferbaly the ones that have very good PQ. To show off to my mates, who cant seem to tell the difference between normal dvd and BBC HD

Batman returns has been getting good reviews for PQ and sound.

What else should i get?

1. Batman beggins
2. ?
3. ?

Re: Recommend some HD DVD`S

My fave's so far in order of preference -

1. Batman Begins
2. Constantine
3. Serenity
4. Sahara
5. The Fast And The Furious Tokyo Drift

For me they show off the huge difference in not only Picture Quality but also Audio Quality more - remember High Definition is not just about the picture - it's the look and SOUND of perfect! lol

Re: Recommend some HD DVD`S

if you're even slightly into old movies, consider 'the searchers' or 'robin hood' (also 'spartacus' out soon). Goes to show even old stuff can look good.

Serenity is top for PQ too. Aeon Flux is supposed to be a reference title but the movie just looked pants so I didn't bother.

Thanks!

Sahara`s been mentioned twice, so thats going on the list. I didnt really like serenity, so ill leave that. I might aswell put the fast and the furious tokyo drift on.

Just one more

1. Batman begins
2. Sahara
3. The Fast And The Furious Tokyo Drift
4. ?

Re: Recommend some HD DVD`S

I have no idea about the transfer quality first hand, but would like to hear about what people have seen with Enter the Dragon. The original of this was pants when I first saw it, so I'm hoping this new release could prove to be a nice "show off" title too.

Anyone confirm?

I dont see any animation on that list so I'll say Corpse Bride.

I'm surprised that T3 hasn't had a mention, well worth a shout.

Re: Recommend some HD DVD`S

According the popular opinion on avsforum these are the top 2 tiers of titles

Training Day
The Fast & The Furious
2 Fast 2 Furious

We Were Soldiers (intentional grain)
Serenity
End of Days
Batman Begins
The Manchurian Candidate
Phantom of the Opera
Swordfish
Good Night and Good Luck
The Polar Express

Tier 2- Very good
Not as many 3D effects, but a very sharp image that feels real

Terminator 3
Red Dragon
Backdraft
Spy Game
Troy
Syriana
Space Cowboys
The Last Samurai
U-571
The Lake House
House of Wax
Pitch Black
Blazing Saddles

Apollo 13
The Adventures of Robin Hood
Four Brothers

Re: Recommend some HD DVD`S

I found Ray to have a fantastic picture quality and is also a good movie. It also comes highly recommended. Colours and contrasts are very nice

Why not have taste and order John Carpenter's The Thing which is out in about 2 weeks time Superb movie and should be superb to look at. Or Slither. Or Sky Captain. Or Pitch Black. Or Chronicles of Riddick.

Are you after demo or quality movie - if it's the latter, you may want to reconsider #2 and #3

Re: Recommend some HD DVD`S

My personal fave is still Phantom, though I haven't seen all the movies listed over at AVS. Unforgiven was a huge leap above the SD version, and a kick-a$$ movie regardless!
