Searchers HD DVD
Hi
Anyone received a copy of this yet. Getting raves reviews over on AVS but doesn't appear to be easy to get hold of.

Re: Searchers HD DVD
Yep, got mine last Friday from DVD Pacific. Picture quality is just brilliant for a 50 year old film.

Re: Searchers HD DVD
Got mine from movietyme(great prices, great service)Watched it on my in76 last night.ITS AWESOME! They have transformed my favourite movie into state of the art fare.
One example I will give is the subplot involving the brothers wife.I must have seen this movie 20 times minimum, but I noticed subtle little looks between big john and Martha that I had never noticed before such is the clarity - Can't wait for Errol Flynn in Robin Hood!

Re: Searchers HD DVD
Just tried out the disc... and my lord its beautiful
Best HD-DVD out of all the ones that I bought, despite being the oldest film!
Quick screenshot, doesn't convey the resolution or colour, but what the hell

Re: Searchers HD DVD
Wow. That looks almost new. This is great news, not only for Classic Movie fans, but also because it might introduce classic old movies to a whole new generation. Let's face it, a lot of today's generation won't watch a movie if it's in B & W or has an old look to it. This is a shame because a lot of these films are much better than a lot of the new films out and have an artistry/emotion/morality/optimism to them sadly lacking in a lot of new movies. It wouldn't do the younger generation any harm to be exposed to some of these Classic movies once in a while. "The Searchers" might not be the best example of a moral film, with it's "racist" overtones but there are 100s/1000s of Classic movies out there that deserve the same kind of treatment that this film seems to have had. "The Adventures of Robin Hood" being one of them!

Re: Searchers HD DVD
Indeed! If "Robin Hood" looks as great as The Searchers, then I'll be putting my pre-order in now

Re: Searchers HD DVD
I watched my HD DVD of The Searchers right through for the first time today. Wow, what a picture! Now for more releases of classic VistaVision features such as "Strategic Air Command" (not even out on DVD), To Catch A Thief, High Society, Gunfight At The O.K. Corral, and Vertigo. My favourite, North By Northwest was one of the original HD DVD titles announced, but has yet to surface.

One of my favourites too. It does at least already have a beautiful transfer on DVD....one of the best I've seen for a film nearly 50 years old. I'm quite happy with this for now. I've seen the film so many times anyway that it would be better for me to spend my money on something else. It'll always be a Classic movie though. The same can be said for "Vertigo" too.

Re: Searchers HD DVD
my Searchers has just shipped from movietyme! Hopefully the player turns up before this weekend.
I want to set all this up before my parents come and visit. My Dad is a huge John Wayne fan, but he mostly has stuff on VHS. Can't wait to see his face :D
