Fair price for digital aerial install?

I have been quoted £450 (cash) for the following

Large (DAT 75?) aerial installed on 10ft pole
Splitter / Amplifier
Cabling to main existing point in living room
Cabling to existing point in bedroom
Cabling to 3 new points in bedrooms

Also told that the cabling will distribute the sky signal from living room over the RF to other rooms - also the guy said he has a new kind of splitter that might allow one bedroom to be setup with a magic eye.

Does that seem OK? - based in Essex

I have no idea if it's fair or not!

Cheers.

I'm always a bit suspicious about dealers who want cash. It means they are almost certainly avoiding paying Tax. If they are being dishonest about this they may well be equally dishonest about estimating your installation cost. Go to a couple of registered installers and take the best deal.

Without seeing how much work there is in doing the cable runs it's hard to say whether it's a fare price or not, as Mike suggests, get 2 or three quotes and go with what you believe is the best (not always the cheapest)

Oh and the amp will work the magic eye on any of the rooms, the problem is you wouldn't want to be watching something on the TV when the better half or whoever decided to switch channels

Cable runs are fairly involved as 3 rooms have never had cable to them before.

Needed to get done in a hurry as have builders here doing loft conversion and they will be sealing up the floor in the loft this week.

If it's within £50 of being reasonable it's worth just going with that to get it done, if it's really excessive I'll get another in if I have time

Hi Chilluk - Couple of further points - if the £450 included the aerial, cable & other hardware (which I hope it does) get a breakdown between the hardware & labour, an estimate of the time the job should take, & the number of men involved. This will give you a better idea of the reasonableness of the charge. Eg if the hardware estimate is £100; & the job will take one man one day, then you may consider that the £350 for labour rather excessive. (Also, where aerial installation involves working on the roof, then one might expect a higher charge - but this doesn't seem to apply in your case.)
