Freeview/sky dish question

Good afternoon,

I've got a tv with built in freeview. I will, at some point, be getting freesat, however I have an old sky dish, which isn't used and I was wondering if I could run a cable from it to the tv and still get freeview, or would I need a decoder box a la freesat?

You can only recieve satellite transmissions from a dish. A UHF terrestrial aerial is required for digital terrestrial TV reception. Any old sky box should work if the dish alignment, lnb and coax cables are OK, and give you all the free channels without a card. If the dish is very old it might be an Ex Sky analogue dish which won't work as it's pointing at the wrong satellite

No you wont get Freeview reception from a dish, you need an aerial.

Correct me if i'm wrong, but doesn't your panasonic G10 have an intergrated Freesat tuner?

In which case you can run a cable from the old dish and get Freesat without the need for an STB,provided it's a sky mini-dish,correctly aligned and in good condition etc and not an old analogue dish.

EDIT-unless of course it's for your toshiba which i didn't notice in your sig at first, in which case you would need a Freesat or Sky stb.

Re: Freeview/sky dish question

The Panny is in my living room with virgin, it is for the toshiba in the main bedroom. Was thinking of it for a short term fix as our house doesn't have an ariel and the HD freesat boxes are still a few quid. Might just get another virgin box for an extra fiver a month as I have a cable point in the bedroom too, unless I can find a 2nd hand hd freesat box.

the sky dish is a newish one as it has a quad lnb.
