Another Samsung problem LE26R51BD or 41BD

Hoping for your help. I read the other Samsung answers with interest although the problem's a bit different.

After auto store retuning the regular BBC and ITV channels are present in DTV but not Film4 and other digital services. If I go to reset and reset the whole thing I get Film 4 etc but BBC and ITV channels are missing. Of course this is not the complete list but the the noticable channel groups present or missing. How can I get them all on the listings at the same time?

I did the right thing and phoned the Samsung help desk, a more unhelpful group I've yet to find in the catalogue of poor customer service. They would offer no advice without the serial number, "Well sorry but you build TV's with the serial number on the back don't you", "Yes, customers wouldn't like this on the front would they?", "No but neither can I get this off the wall in order to read the numbers to you, you build a TV to go on the wall and then refuse to help when it's there", "Sorry but no S/N, no help", end of phone call!

BTW the instruction manual lists both model numbers and I cannot see a model number on the front of the TV either. This is the lady-next-doors box of tricks and I'm a man so I can fix it (not)! (Well yes, I am a man and my bits are OK but it's the Samsung bit I'm having trouble with).

So I'm hoping AV Forums can help where Samsung cannot. Note for the future - never buy Samsung.

Further note. I have a Panasonic Viera and it re-tuned like a dream - buy Panasonic - great.

I have the 32" model Samsung and had a similar problem when retuning using the auto feature, losing one frequency in favour of another! so I scanned the channels manually and now have more channels than before the switch.

Atmospheric conditions will change during the scan and frequencies will come & go, you have to keep scanning each channel you know carries a signal until it returns positive results - after a few auto-scans you can get an basic idea of which range of channels you need to spend time re-scanning manually.

BTW: I don't think you can really blame Samsung CS for refusing to help without a serial number. It's a security measure that ensures the set you want help with hasn't been reported stolen in a burglary or is from some other dodgy source! I'm sure if your TV was ever stolen, you would appreciate that refusal to help & possibility of it leading to the capture of the thief. The serial number will be somewhere on the paperwork she received with the set.

Oh and I also have a note for the future! never buy SONY.

I made that decision a few years back when they were caught secretly installing root-kit software on our PC's (every PC that that ran a SONY CD\CD-ROM) and leaving us open to security risks without our knowledge or consent, Microsoft had to issue a patch to repair the damage... very naughty.

Most of us have our personal reasons for not wanting to buy one make over another! But I like Samsung gear as it tends to look good & is IMHO usually very reliable - mine is nearly 4 years old and still shows a great picture. My father-in-law just bought a 40" Samsung after coming round mine to watch the footie in HD! He's chuffed to bits with it.
