Panasonic Vierra Switchover problems

Panasonic Digital re-tuning woes.
My area switched o ff Analogue a month ago, and that went OK.
However there was a second round of retuning 2 weeks ago and since then my Panasonic Vierra TH-37PE30 won’t ‘retune’ to all stations.

For example … selected auto retune …. It goes off and does this, on several attempts last week, seemed to bring in all channels except Ch5.
On one occasion it did ‘find’ Ch 5, but missed out many of the others.
Retuned this week several times … Ch 5 is there and most of the others except BBC1 & 2 …. Rescanned 5 times in a row now … and each time no BBC1 or 2.

There is no problem with the Ch being transmitted or my aerial, as we have 2 Samsung digital TV’s, they rescanned correctly and display all channels.
This to me proves aerial is OK - a new ‘digital’ aerial installed a year ago – pointing at Kilvey transmitter.
I have looked at settings … run the system set-up and it tells me it has most recent version of software.
Signal strength for all Ch is showing as ‘9’

Any ideas ?

CH 5 swaps muxes with ITV 4 on 25/09 so if you can get ITV1 now you should get CH5 after 25/09

I got all digital Channels until this switchover started ... after 1st phase re-tuned and still go them all.
Just last week ... now can get them all ... but not it seems at same time ...
currently have ITV1, 2 & 4 and Ch 5 and all the others ... just not BBC1 & 2

If I re tune there is a 50% chance I get BBc1 &2 but then lose Ch5 ...

You need to find the UHF channels that you should be using from your local transmitter, delete all your channels and manually tune each uhf channel (mux) in turn

Why is this necessary ... all other TV & set top boxes auto tune OK ... is this just that Panasonic is poor ?

Keep a watch on this website as there is a download for Panasonic scheduled for next week, although no model numbers are indicated yet.

Angry Re: Panasonic Vierra Switchover problems

Guys, Help !!!

Mum's TH-37PX80BA less than 12 months old is now dead after I tried a digital retune today. (Granada, Winter Hill).
Found channels during retune & then screen went blank. Power cycling does nothing. remote flashes the red led but no picture, selecting av also does nothing.Assume a firmware issue, tried calling panasonic support but not accepting calls due to high call volume. Is there a way to reset TV with no picture ?? or do we need to be sent a cam module to update firmware ??

I have the same Panasonic Plasma model TH-37PX80BA bought Feb 2009, I am in same region, I am about 30 miles south of Winter Hill. I had ALL channels & near perfect reception upto Monday 28th Sept (quality and strength bars at max 10) no interference or drop outs, then comes this retune!

At first: All services lost!

I have used the built-in auto retune several times since lunchtime (30th) and so far I have a grand total of 6 DVB channels, (BBC) and the signal strength and quality is only 7 and that is with a new booster (I thought the old one had by coincidence packed in so I bought a new one, but no such luck).

The analogue is now p*** poor too (It was OK before but I never watched it). What is going on? I did get a some others channels of strength 1 but they give me Bad Signal in red in the info box.

Some people have stated elsewhere that some DVB equipment requires you to clear the memory or something but the Panasonic Auto Tune says it will wipe previous digital set up anyway. So What do I do now?

I have gone to the Panasonic web site and found some kind of form & filled in my details and in the comments I requested any updates by post. So far no reply from them. Can't believe this is happening to such a recent purchase! Family not impressed.

Re: Panasonic Vierra Switchover problems

I have had a response (took more than a week) .... standard letter advising they are sending me the f/w update and the CAM.

That was on Monday ... still not received.

If your sig quality is that Low you proably need to look at aerial - mayeb it needs alignmnet, have you tried changing ploarization ?

Ok so I could be waiting some time for the CAM based update.

As to your other point about alignment, I am considering either getting someone to redo the aerial or forget all that and spend the cash on HD freesat; HOWEVER I don't see why I would suddenly need to move the aerial (direction or polarization) which was working fine till 30th, with all channels, all full strength. My aerial is pointing exactly at Winter Hill with H polarization as is everyone else round here. Its like I have only one MUX!

And with all the chaos right now i doubt I could find an installer of any kind in the near future.

Re: Panasonic Vierra Switchover problems

You don't know what changes they have made at Transmitter do you ? same for me at my location.

One thing for sure your signal strength seems low .. will probably give pixelation on screen.

Try realigning - a spanner and 5 mins time is all it takes, at least get your sig strength right.

I called Panasonic today - got straight through, and they checked my current sw version and confimed I need an update - sending new pre-loaded CAM.

Perhaps I shoud have done this last week rather than sending email request :-)

Just had an email back from Panasonic:

In response, the attached guide for the 30th September digital retune should provide a step by step guide to re-tuning your unit. We would recommend re-tuning the unit in the afternoon.

We trust that the above information will be of assistance to you. However, of course, if you should have any further queries, please do not hesitate to contact us on .....
Great.

Re: Panasonic Vierra Switchover problems

The Auto-tune feature of my Samsung left me with missing channels after Oct 1st, and subsequent auto-tune's meant some channels would appear & others disappeared. I have now manually tuned the TV and have more channels than before the re-tune.

Although time consuming, the manual tuning method is probably the best route to take for all makes of Freeview TVs. note that you may have to scan a single frequency 4 or 5 times before you see any channels popping up - this is usually down to atmospheric conditions &\or the signal strength peaking\troughing during the scan! once you find channels on a frequency, save them & move on to the next one.

IIRC my Freeview channels (113 incl. Radio) are all between Channel 22(482000KHz) & 39(618000KHz) @8MHz, but there's nothing stopping you from scanning other frequencies.

HTH.

Re: Panasonic Vierra Switchover problems

panasonic admit my s/w ver is 3 revisons old ...
I did ask why does it say there are no newer versions - the reply was that they have ceased over the updates.

They have confirmed that a new s/w load is avaible for my Vierra that fixes teh tuning issue and it has been sent out.

I'll report back once I have treid it

Re: Panasonic Vierra Switchover problems

An update on my situation.

Turns out that the masthead amplifier on the external aerial got blown pretty close to the switchover date which was lousy coincidence for me. Don't know why it blew, weather was pretty mild for a while maybe a pigeon urinated on it (The day before everything was fine). With the amplifier PSU switched off and a conventional booster all I could get was channel 56 (MUX1) and no analogue. With the PSU on, nothing at all! The aerial installation was from the previous home owner and I have no idea why he had that installed other than it was a poor pole position in the first place

I bought a new high gain aerial with no masthead amp and 15m of coax (£40 all in) from a local family run Audio TV shop and I rigged it in the highest point in my loft as a trial (about 3m higher than the previous external site) and guessed the direction to Winter Hill & WOW! perfect! Better than ever in fact. Interference from local scooter boyz is gone too!

Only two more re-tunes until Christmas!

Re: Panasonic Vierra Switchover problems

Update s/w arrived yesterday - installed very simply - no interaction needed.
First scan brought in only half the channels ... (does the scan after installing the s/w)
I initiated an auto scan a few minutes later and it has brought back all the channels .... so s/w update has done the job.

Today second CAM arrived - but same s/w load ... so 2 to send back.

Also installed my HUMAX 9300T yesterday - as I can no longer switch to analogue when TV is recording a freeview channel to DVD recorder.

Very pleased with that .. and it set it's self up and worked .. TV auto switches to it when I turn it on, and AV amp also auto switches to optical input for audio ... all without effort to configure .. great.
