ITV Teletext closure announced

Teletext to disappear from TV screens next year - Press Gazette

It is expected that Page 888 (subtitles) will continue on ITV, Channel 4 and Five, as will 'Fivetext' on 'Five' (pages 500 to 599).

Does not appear to relate to BBC's content.

That's correct.

Although most people use the generic term "Teletext" (just as all vacuum cleaners are Hoovers) this announcement refers specifically to Teletext and not Ceefax.

Re: Teletext closure announced

I for one will miss it. I find it much faster than it's digital counterpart.

At the risk of being pedantic (but only for the sake of clarity for other readers):

Teletext is, I believe, BOTH a term that describes the text broadcasting system (and so is correctly used to describe ALL such services) AND the branding used by ITV for their service. (see this article for confirmation: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Teletext )

Ceefax is the branding for the BBC's "teletext" service.

So, for clarity - it is Teletext supplied by ITV that is to cease. The BBC's teletext service, Ceefax, isn't part of this announcement.

(I've altered the thread title)

Which is *PRECISELY* why there is no mention of the word CEEFAX!

The announcement refers to the services offered by Teletext Limited!

GEEZ!

* 'Teletext Ltd' is registered in England & Wales with the company number 2694814
* 'Teletext Ltd' VAT number is 243571174.
* Teletext Ltd' is located at Building 10, Chiswick Park, 566 Chiswick High Road, London W4 5TS.
