terrestrial aerials on new LCD TV

I know i am going to sound likea complete numpty, but here goes.
I am about to have delivered a new LCD Samsung 32inch tv, the problem is I dont have an outside terrestial arial, although I do have Sky television. The question is will it work with out the arial.

To some this might be a stupid question but your input would be most appriciated.

re: terrestrial aerials on new LCD TV

So is there still the need to have the external aerial?

We're buying a new house soon and I can't find any information that tells me if I still need to have one of these aerials as well as the Sky box. I guess if I didn't have Sky, I'd be unable to pick up and channels on the built-in freeview on the TV, so presumably the digital signal is transmitted on these aerials and I need one?

Your TV will work as a monitor so you can watch whatever is being produced by the Sky box. You don't need an aerial for this. You DO need an aerial if you want to use the TV's own onboard tuner to receive (Freeview) programmes WITHOUT using the Sky box.

Thanks, I assumed as much, but for some reason couldn't work out if I was being stupid in thinking the 'old skool' aerials would be able to trasmit a digital signal.

If by old skool you mean a Tv aerial then they can. As far as an aerial is concerned it does not care if the signal is analogue or digital. If you are in a poor digital signal area you might need a better one though. If you have an aerial just try it to see.
