tech. question re change over.

Hi
I have teres/ sky aerials, feeding 4 rooms the sky controlled by magic eyes, via a distribution amp with bi-pass in the loft,
the system works fine.
Being in the Border region, we have started the change over,at present only BBC 2 (rest follows mid July)
I tried removing the Magic eye from a bedroom set , selecting the analogue , and fitting a STB for freeview, all channels work with exception of BBC2 , the auto set-up on the STB does not come on.and manualy can not receive BBC2
My Question does the Dist/amp in the loft prevent the STB from working (Tried two same result) Strange really as the analogue signal very good picture excellent.

Thanks for any help
Ken

Re: tech. question re change over.

As you said BBC2 has been switched off for analog now (first stage of changover), so you will no longer receive it via the analog tuner of the TV. You will however get it on the Freeview STB, along with most of the other BBC channels, with the rest to follow after the second stage of switchover (all analog channels switched off). Your loftbox or magic eye should have no affect on this.

Re: tech. question re change over.

You don't say which transmitter you get signals from or which set top box you are using

However, going on the Selkirk switchover at the end of last year, I don't think your internal system should cause a problem

Some set top boxes do have problems during and after switchover. Is the box new or has it been bought via e-bay or wherever? Make and model number would help.

During the switchover period signals on some channels are liable to wide variation, even from day to day as equipment is fitted at the transmitters, with some muxes transmitting at very low power. It is only after the second switch when the power is increased on many muxes that you really get to see how things are going to work

www.ukfree.tv/ gives much information including which set top boxes don't work properly any more, and what your own transmitter will produce in the way of power during and after completion of the changeover

The way to nail it of course is to fit the downlead from the aerial direct to the set top box and into a portable tv and see what signals you get from that

Wink Re: tech. question re change over.

I apologize if this has been answered on the forums somewhere, but can I ask, after the second changeover, how much is the digital signal boosted by?
I am in a region ( N Wales) where there is a local relay transmitter, that won't include Sky News or Dave, but I could possibly get a decent signal from Manchester when the signals are boosted. At present I can only receive digital BBC 1 from Manchester, and occasionally ITV 1.
TIA.
