Max SD card for Panasonic TZ7

Greetings.

What's the biggest SD card (not SDHC) that the TZ7 will recognise? I've got a 4GB SD card on its way to me, but am concerned that the TZ7 may only recognise up to 2GB for SD cards.

Thanks

Phil

Re: Max SD card for Panasonic TZ7

Looking at the manual here on page 8 it looks as though your concerns are right and that 2GB SD cards are the max

Re: Max SD card for Panasonic TZ7

You may also run in to problems with video on the TZ7 unless you get a faster SD card.

Re: Max SD card for Panasonic TZ7

Thanks for those. I think that the one that I ordered should be fast enough (SanDisk 4GB SD Extreme III). It's just if the camera will read it properly.

What would be a suitable card, and where's the best place to buy from. Looking for a 4 or 8GB card.

Thanks in advance.

Phil

Hi Phil

I think you'll be ok with the 4GB card to be honest. I have a 4GB card in my TZ5 and have had no problems. Fingers crossed!

Re: Max SD card for Panasonic TZ7

I use a 16Gb Fuji (Class 4) SD-HC card in my TZ7. Class 4 is fast enough to shoot Hi-Def video.

Re: Max SD card for Panasonic TZ7

Hi,

In relation to the above, I'm thinking I should get a class 6 for the HD video. What classes are current users using and if they've noticed any issues with it?

Re: Max SD card for Panasonic TZ7

I'm using a Class 6 Panasonic SDHC card for my TZ7. I film on the highest quality setting with AVCHD Lite mode when filming and I've had no problems at all with how they come out.

Thing is from what everyone has said you might just be better off with a Class 4 as it seems to do the job just fine and it will save you some money, although I cannot really say anything about whether a Class 4 works since I've never used one in mine.

Re: Max SD card for Panasonic TZ7

Thanks for that, I'm leaning towards just biting the bullet and getting a class 6 card but not too sure on manufacturer. Transcend seems the cheapest so currently looking for reviews on them but'll probably go for the Panasonic, like you.

Re: Max SD card for Panasonic TZ7

I only use Class 6 cards for all my devices. Some seem to work a bit smoother but the biggest reason is read/write speed. it can take longer with a slower card.
As i have quite a few SD devices i find its easier to by the fastest i can now, as who knows what speed the next device will require.

Just my way of working though.

Dave, is there any particular class 6 card you'd reccomend?

Ive got 4 Transcend's and two Kingston's so either of those brands.
Although i believe some people have had beeping noises (power issues i think) with the Kingston's.
I've also used the Play.com ones and have had no problems. I use one in my Canon HF10 and it works just fine.
I got my transcend 16GB class6 cards when they were only £18 each a few months ago, i believe they have gone up in price since then.

Cheers and good luck with what ever you get. I really wouldn't spend too much on the card. you dont need anything ultra fast and even though I have a SanDisc class 6 Extreme III I see no improvement over the slower cards i have. Except for when im copying files to it from my PC.

Re: Max SD card for Panasonic TZ7

I plumped for the TZ7 a few days ago, it arrived yesterday. I've been looking to upgrade my 3 year old Sony DSC-9 for about 6 months. I've bought about 3 camera's and haven't been impressed at all. However, this just blew me away last night. The quality of the pics was great (OK maybe some tweaking here and there but not much, if any) much better than the other camera's but the video... wow! it's all I can say. I videod my son in a school music concert last night and it looks fantastic both on the camera and PC. All I have to do now is work out how to get it on disk and play on my Sony BD oh and then maybe getting an SD version for the school, so expect to see some questions on another thread soon

Re: Max SD card for Panasonic TZ7

Nice one.
I too find the video very good but im still not 100% with the stills. Then again i do have a better camera for that.
If you have a PS3 the files should play back fine on it directly from the SD card.
You can also burn the whole BD file structure from the card to a DVD (space permitting) and that too should play ok on a BD player. It will be limited to about 20mins i believe (4.5GB).
If not i suggest you have a look at Sony Vegas 9MSP if you are looking to buy some software.
Beware the free stuff that came with the camera. Its not very good.
