lighting for a pop up tent...

Hey there,

I've got a pop up tent thingy, and want to take some photos of models (toy robots) to use in photoshop for a comic thing...

Anyway, what sort of lighting do I need?

I've got tomorrow afternoon to shop around for the right stuff, I figure a couple of angle desk lamps with 100w bulbs is all I need (with my 430exII from the front) - but thought i'd ask if there are other ideas/opinions...

only want to spend up to £50 ish..

cheers,

Nelson.

I use a couple of these :

Buy Large Silver Energy Saving Desk Lamp at Argos.co.uk - Your Online Shop for .

They are bright enough and come with a handy desk clip so they dont need to be on the large base.
2 of them flat against both sides provides enough light to get soem nice shots.

The challenge you will have with mixing the lighting sources is getting the white balance correct. You may be better off just using the lamps and dropping the flash to avoid the mixed colouration

Re: lighting for a pop up tent...

Hi, my first post for ages, but hope I can help.

Here is my set up for ebay stuff, the small stuff anyways.
Picasa Web Albums - toadoftoadhall - light tent

Second photo shows the flash trigger, set up on the tv, that fires the main flash on top of the diffuser material, the flash on camera is set to 1/8th power, so doesnt show on the photo. I set it to full power here just to show the system. After taking the shot, just process in photoshop with lighting filters, and hey presto, great looking advert shot.

See what it can do here

Sorry, cant remember how to post links properly.

All you need is flash on camera that you can set to low power. A flash trigger , cheap on fleabay, another flash to do the lighting, and off you go.

good luck

toad

Re: lighting for a pop up tent...

ooops sorry didn't notice you were in a hurry to get them.

I've used some normal desk lamps with my tent but took the photos at night to avoid mixing the light sources.

I've seen these on amazon which come with daylight bulbs for £20 per pair.

I don't really want to fork out for a flash at this point in time.
