flickr message - someone wants to use an image

I finally got a request to use an image which has something in it for me!

A publishing company offering $200 to use one of my recent rollercoaster images in a calendar.

So I sent them a selection of 10 images to look at - and they want to use 3!

Happy days!

Sorry! All proceeds go straight into the 'next lens' fund.

I've got my eye on a TS-E 24mm f/3.5L II

Need to sell a lot more images though

Me too! That or the 17mm. Bit pricey though, I'll have to save up for a few years!

Nice isn't it <drool> ... pity the 17mm can't be used with filters though. It's one bizarre looking lens.

I see, prostituting yourself for a few dollars, is there no ‘Art’ for ‘Arts’ sake anymore? Lol

Well done Dave.

good to see they had the courtesy/savvy to contact you prior to publishing - I'm in "discussions" with a large establishment who used one of mine without consent!

Re: flickr message - someone wants to use an image

well done onefivenine !

As a new member to flickr and a new owner of a 450d I am thinking of using flickr to possibly earn a little pocket money (lens fund etc!) and I wondered if your willing to share any tips you have regards getting your images spotted on flickr to these prospective buyers ?

I only have one image so far (last months competition!)

thanks!

That's an interesting proposition, I think if you want to make money you may be better off with a decent stock agency like alamy. Or perhaps a microstock agency (which I'm personally against) like fotolia or shutter stock.

Saying that I've made a little bit of money through flickr but I don't use any stock agencies as of yet. I think I might hit alamy hard for a while and see if that can drum me up some cash.

Tags Tags Tags.

When youve uploaded your images Tag them....with every relevant or linked word you can think off.
When people search google images etc you'll have better success of redirected clicks if the are tagged.

Similarly title the image and description.

Also dont think that the wow images are the ones that get snapped up.

I sold two images to a dutch mag who were doing a piece on the Hotel I stayed at in turkey. The pictures they bought were distinctly average.

Hi Mark.

The image I was contacted for is in one flickr group (rollercoasters). It has no tags, only has 36 views to date, and the title is something like IMG_3459. The buyer must have just gone straight for the rollercoasters group to search for potential images and bingo - right place, right time for me. I could have added lots of tags and splattered it across umpteen groups but I doubt that would have increased its 'sales potential' much. They found me with little or no effort on my part.

It's true if you want to get your images seen by many on flickr just add them to lots of groups and add lots of tags, description, interesting title etc, as has already been suggested, but I wouldn't expect too much in the way of direct sales from this approach.

Microstock (fotolia etc) may be a better way for you to sell some images.
