Wide angle lens for Canon EOS model.

I've been searching for a while now to try & find a good Wide Angle lens for my Canon 1000D DSLR. I've got a budget of £250-£300, but £300 is the utmost max, so more £250.

I've been looking at a few Tamron lens, but the Sigma lens also come with a good rep.

Could I have a few recommendations from people who use/have any wide angle lenses?

Re: Wide angle lens for Canon EOS model.

How wide is wide?

The kit lens is 18-55mm (if you have it?) so if that isn't wide enough for you then you probably need to look at an ultra wide angle like the Sigma 10-20. Otherwise, the standard wide zoom that gets recomended a lot around here is the Tamron 17-50mm f/2.8.

I sold the kit lens to buy the 55-250 IS lens. The 17-50 does look like a good lens. Thanks for your opinion.
