I see Nikon have release info on a new bridge camera:

Nikon unveils Coolpix P90 24X superzoom: Digital Photography Review

24x zoom and tilting LCD. Seeing as it's only a press release and no one can comment on how good it is I posted here rather than in gear- it was more of a 'look what's going on' rather than anything else.

I don't get so excited anymore about bridge super zooms since i moved over from a FZ30 to a G1, i prefer the larger sensor and less noise it gives me.

I wonder where the super zoom race will go from here, small sensor and to many pixels crammed on them.

I know what you mean, I used to think they were a great all round solution but when you consider the price of some of them, an entry level DSLR can be cheaper and offer better results with nearly endless possibilites. It's not like they are that small either.

Still, there's a market there somewhere...

Retail is about $400 so probably over £300 as you can never go by the exchange rate- certainly not in the UK

It does have a big zoom but going by exisiting bridge cameras there's a lot of compromise been made to get there. Technology is improving and samples of recent bridge cameras do not seem to have the purple fringing of 1st generation ones but there is a distinct lack of sharpness throughout the range on some- without generalising too much before all the bridge camera users jump in with 'mine doesn't do that'
So, although in 35mm terms it would be 624mm which would be expensive for an SLR/DSLR the quality of the images would not be comparable.

Depends on the user- some people might think they've paid £300 for a dud and spend another £300 buying the DSLR they should have got in the first place and others may think their bridge camera is fantastic. That's what makes life so much fun
