Re: British Landscapes Site

Thanks, i will pass on the comments.

Just been checking out your shots from Utah, some amazing photos.

Takes me back, I worked there on Lake Powell in 1998, just wish i'd been into photography as much then and had a nice DSLR like now, very jealous...

Keep up the good work.

Re: British Landscapes Site

Very nice & professional looking site. Needs some work on levelling the odd horizon though.

Re: British Landscapes Site

Some very nice pictures there; please pass on my compliments. His photographs have a very nice timeless quality, very much in tune with the subject and all the better for being free from a gimmicky style. Quite important if people are going to buy them and perhaps have them on their wall for some time.

As for the website itself, if you hadn't have mentioned it I wouldn't have given much thought to the design. But I wonder if there is maybe a bit too much info on the home page. The Gallery page seemed to make a nicer page to start with and get interested quickly in the photographs. The other information I looked at having been hooked by the pictures. I am no expert on website design so do take with a pinch of salt.

Cheers, Malcolm

Re: British Landscapes Site

A good site, with some very good images.

If I could improve one thing it would be the site header, where I think its aim is to look like a painting, and it says "British Landscapes, a photographic journey round the British Isles". For me, the 'painted look' doesn't really work, and the text on top of it looks a little rough. Would look great if it was all sharp and crisp.

Re: British Landscapes Site

Personally I would tidy up the front page a tiny bit, it's quite busy. Maybe showing a few more pictures and a bit less text. My view is that if people like the pictures they will then look through the text, rather than the opposite of reading the text and then looking through the pictures. The menu is also quite busy. It could be split a bit better (Does the 'send message' button really need to be as prominant as the gallery button? - Surley the gallery is the meat and potatoes of the site?)... Still I really like all the options like the photo locations etc. That's a fantastic idea. So you shouldn't get rid of it. I would like to see something like this on more websites. I currently also like the gallery the way it's set out. It's not fancy, but it works. I would be hesitant to change it much. News should definately be kept up on the front page, as repeat vistors always want to see if anything new is up without trawling through the whole site.

Also maybe a new top banner would suit (With higher resolution text so it doens't look blocky). A dark sunset, or heavy shadows so it doesn't constrast with the page's colour quite so much.

I'd also sort out usage of the word "round" and "around", as there are inconsistancies between the website banner and the blog. I find "round" a bit distracting.

These are quite picky things to be honest as I'm looking at something which is already pretty good. If this is a first attempt at a home built website it's brilliant work.
