Distance settings

How do you do your distance settings?

I've read near enough all of "Understanding Exposure" and i still can't work out how he does it, though i do realise he's using an older camera.

Re: Distance settings

Guessing a bit but I think you might be referring to "Hyperfocal Distance". My copy of Mr Petersons book has gone walkabouts but I think he's using a prime lens for his landscape work these have markers on the barrel for the main apertures F8, F11, F16 etc you can use these then line up something else (hopefully somebody will be along to help me out ) to make life easier for setting the "Hyperfocal Distance". Most of our zoom lenses have no marking whatsover so you have to rely on either focusing about a third into the scene and use the DOF preview button. This is a link I found a while back on "Hyperfocal Distance" focusing. Apologies all if I've got the complete wrong end of the stick

Re: Distance settings

Lol, no no i think you have it.

I just didn't know what else it was called.

Thanks for the link, i'll have a wee read of that later on when my brains woken up a bit.

I did figure it was about a third of the way up into the viewfinder, but Peter goes on about 2 feet up from the centre of the lens and that made me rather confused....not difficult thing to do.

Re: Distance settings

Remember ages ago "Tobers" started a couple of interesting threads on this subject and by some kinda miracle I've managed to find them

Another option I'm finding useful at the minute when I've the camera tripod mounted and with resonable light is live view
