Selling your own photos on Market/Car Boot

Advice required please.

I am thinking of selling some of my photos at Car Boot/Market Stall and need some advice please.
I will be printing my own photos at home, but where is the best place to buy mounting card or any other equipment needed to make my photos look more professional.
How will copyright be dealt with if selling your own photos also.

Has anyone else done this and if so what is their experience.

Any advice that anyone can give will be much appreciated.

Thanks

Dave

Re: Selling your own photos on Market/Car Boot

I mainly buy frames & mounts from this place www.greatart.co.uk

Good quality stuff, good prices & good service. (I have no affiliation with them whatsoever - just happy to recommend based on my own positive experiences).
If you're planning to produce more than a small quantity, it's worth investing in a mountboard cutter to make proper bevel-cut mounts. Longridge and Logan both make good ones. I've been pleased with results from my Logan 301s which I picked up for about £80.
One good thing about making your own mounts, is that you can use standard sized frames (less costly than bespoke) if indeed you plan to sell your prints framed.

The only other thing I'd add is that generally your display will look better if you settle on one style of frame & mount colour and one (or maybe two) sizes of print.

You retain your own copyright by default so you don't need to do anything special to protect it.

Good luck!

Re: Selling your own photos on Market/Car Boot

I've been doing a local market for the last 3 month's once a week. You need to have public liability insurance to be allowed to trade at a market I joined the "National Market Traders Federation" through belonging to them you gain the relevant insurance required.

One thing I'm starting to address is "get your signature" on your photo's be it in the corner of the image or sign the mount. Without it I think people assume it's some mass produced image printed in China.

I get most of my sales where I live in the tourist season, outside of that it's hard work I find to get sales and it's mostly turning into a day out for me currently. It's all about location, location I feel if your in an area where people have money and you price the stuff realistically it will sell.
