Photography program on BBC 4 Tonight

Apologies if this has already been posted. Program on tonight at 9pm BBC 4 "Seven Photographs That Changed Fasion". The idea is that photographer "Rankin" is recreating the photo's of his Idol's best work. Thought it might be of interest to some.

Re: Photography program on BBC 4 Tonight

Just finished watching it and I enjoyed it as well, I though it might be good as it was recommended in the "Radio Times" good choices to watch tonight. Pity it's not a longer series I could have quite happily have watched a few more episodes, oh well.

Re: Photography program on BBC 4 Tonight

One interesting aspect of the programme is that it illustrated how difficult it is to adopt another talented photographers style. I think I preferred the original in most cases and that is not a criticism of Rankin. I think that when a photographer develops and uses a style it is the result of much hard work, and having done the spadework the intuitive magic can shine through.

Re: Photography program on BBC 4 Tonight

Saw that. Excellent programme I thought. Even Mrs Tobers watched it, and she seemed entranced by the photographic techniques and lighting of the shot with the tyres .

At the end of it I actually thought he did well, but had a pretty easy job. Firstly he had access to top models. Secondly he had an army of assistance. Third he had an obviously nice budget. Fourth he didn't have to use any imagination at all to create the shots. I think any number of us could have produced similar images under these circumstances.

So it was a fascinating insight into what it takes to make pictures like that, but ultimately I was left a bit flat because he was "just" copying. I'd like to see a follow-up where we see his creative process and techniques for producing original imagery.
