Got my D60 VR Kit + 55-200MM, Do I Need UV Filter?

Is it really needed?, if so how much should I pay for it?... also what filter would be needed when shooting through a window/glass?

There are 2 schools of thought on this, some people think adding unnecessary filters affects the eventual image quality, others think the UV filter helps prevent you accidently scratching the glass in your lens and let's face it, it's cheaper to replace a filter than a lens!

Personally I can't see the difference between an image with and without UV so I have a Hoya filter on one of my lenses purely because it was cheap at 7dayshop.

It undoubtedly affects image quality. We can argue over by how much, under what conditions if you want.

I went for a B+W UV MRC Filter for mine after weighing up the pro's and con's.

If anyone is going to damage something, it's usually me. So something to reduce the risk of this is well worth the extra in my opinion.

For shooting through glass, it's a circular polarizer (C-PL) you want.
