Shooting locations - Yorkshire Dales

A bit of pre-trip planning going on here. Off to Yorkshire Dales for a couple of days mid-March, planning to stay in Skipton area. Any recommendations for good landscape/waterfall type shooting locations?

TIA

If you're all nice and helpful, I might post some of the pictures here

Mark

High Force Waterfall, County Durham, England, UK

is well worth a look , a bit further north than where you are going though

edit --- 45 miles further would be worth it in my opinion though

"Openings:
High Force is spectacular throughout the seasons and is open for your enjoyment all year round. Charges apply for parking and for admission to the waterfall. Admissions

Adult: £1.50 Child under 16: Free Concessions: £1.00

Charging to see a river - you'd think they'd built it they way they're going on?!!

No...but I intend going, not to see the river but to photograph the paths - they must be the best paths in the word.

Re: Shooting locations - Yorkshire Dales

Any chance of going back to the original topic?

The Dales are my favourite location in England. Here are some suggestions which might be worth researching.

Malham area: Malham Cove is a very spectacular cliff with a river flowing out of the bottom. Wonderful example of limestone pavement on the top. Just along the road to the east is Gordale Scar, a waterfall coming out of a narrow valley that used to be an underground cavern.

Ribblesdale: There's that lovely viaduct half way up on the Settle-Carlisle railway, and if you like viaducts and railways continue up and turn left in Dentdale.

Hardraw Force just to the north of Hawes in Wensleydale is worth a visit.

Quite a bit further north is Swaledale where it is almost impossible not to take stunning landscape pictures, especially if you aproach from Hawes over the Buttertubs pass to Muker. Swaledale from Gunnerside down to Reeth is full of old stone barns and dry stone walls. There is a lovely road that goes back via Askrigg.

As mentioned, High Force in Teesdale is very impressive. For anyone who can't afford the entry after spending thousands on camera gear, it is possible to see the waterfall from the South side which is on the Pennine Way, although it does involve quite a long walk. Teesdale is a fair distance from Skipton though, especially if you only have a few days.

Frankly, you're spoilt for choice. Have a great time and I look forward to seeing the pictures.

Re: Shooting locations - Yorkshire Dales

lol whats going on with AVForums at the min

High Force is a good place to visit but a bit out of the way.

Skipton is a lovely market town and if you go on a market day there's lots of photo ops. Some nice walks along the canals

Ingleton Waterfalls Walk is near skipton and is about a 4 mile scenic walk with waterfalls, again there is a small fee but worth it

I doubt you'll get this far North East but #1 photo is looking down to the river from the Richmond Castle Keep, you can walk round the castle wall for a little exercise.

#2 Richmond Market Square.

#3 An old motor in Bainbridge.

Re: Shooting locations - Yorkshire Dales

I went up to the Yorkshire Dales last year with a friend of mine. We didn't do Malham Cove but did shoot around Malham and Ribblesdale;

Yorkshire Dales - a set on Flickr

This is the viaduct (3-shot handheld vertical HDR pano);

There is also Scaleber Falls (so long as there hasn't been heavy rain otherwise it looks more like Niagra!)

Definitely worth the drive up and I'm intending to go back again in the near future

Cheers
Steve

Agree with all these great locations. I'd add Aysgarth Falls (good when water levels are up) and also there is a beautiful pool and waterfall between Malham Town and Gordale Scar called Janet's Foss.

Re: Shooting locations - Yorkshire Dales

Thanks folks (despite the topic being somewhat derailed early on). Only really got one full day in the dales to do any serious photography, so may be challenged to get all the suggestions in. Was looking to stay around Skipton, waiting for some information through the old mailbox.

I'll probably have a stinking hangover though, so fully expect some blurred efforts......
