MS Pro Duo memory card - help

Hi, we purchased two 4GB Sony MS Pro Duo memory cards off ebay, to be used in a Sony digital camera, but for some reason the camera is unable to format it when turning the camera on it just displays "format error" on both cards I have also tried using Windows to format via USB and it starts to format then displays "Windows is unable to format" when it finishes

I have also tried formatting on the PSP and still have no joy

One of the 2 cards was definately second hand as it contained 2.97GB of PSP stuff on it, and at the time it actually worked .. until I attempted to format it, and now it no-longer works at all

Just to prove that the formatting works, I put in my old 1GB card and formatted it fine

Is there anything I am doing wrong, or are they faulty cards ??

Sorry if this is in the wrong section

Thanks, but the PSP will accept any GB card I think

Also the used 4GB card worked until I attempted to format it

Edit: just checked the instructions and it will take up to 8GB cards.

That had crossed my mind, but one of them worked at first .. surely formatting cannot corrupt the card somehow can it ?

Re: MS Pro Duo memory card - help

Maybe it had just come to the end of it's life? I had a 2gb sandisk, which I'm pretty sure is a fake as it just doesn't feel as well built as my original sandisk. It worked perfectly to begin with, but with age it has given in...

I just checked the blokes feedback and while he sells abosolutely loads of them, he has 5 negative feedback this month (along with hundreds of positive feedback) a couple of negatives seem to have the same problem as me with the PSP saying 'memory stick not supported' etc!

I have emailed him asking for them to be exchanged

I've been in a similar position with a memory cards bought from eBay. One was a 2GB SanDisk microSD card which worked for a few months before corrupting itself. The other was a Lexar 4GB Pro Duo which didn't work straight out the packet. Both were from Hong Kong sellers.

You can't even trust the likes of Amazon these days either. I recently bought a 4GB SanDisk Extreme III CF card from them and it arrived with no packaging and no recovery software, which made me suspicious as there's a page on the website telling people to watch out for fakes, and to ensure their cards come in full retail packaging. It's just turning into another eBay since they introduced Marketplace Sellers. Sad times.
