There's been a fair bit of discussion on other threads comparing these cameras, as their similar pricing leads a number of photographers to compare these if they have yet to buy a selection of lenses - or are considering switching.

I found an interesting post on another sitre (link below) from a photograper who own both, and has used the 5D previously. It appears soundly written, and may help those undecided.

His conclusion is broadly:

"I think that for now I will leave my D700 for outdoor shootings of people /not static portraits, but rather people in move, some actions/ because with the better AF and 8 fps I can get more interesting shots more easily, and choose 5D2 for everything else: night shots, indoor shots (think: 35L, 24L, 85L, 135L), static portraits, studio shooting, landscapes (because of better resolution and lenses like 135L, 200L), travel photography (the lovely 24-105L and 70-200 4L). "

LOL, yes

A fair conclusion, as after all, I am keeping my 40D since getting a 5Dii.... for sports, but also for where I am focal length limited.
