Spent some time this morning taking photos of the birds in my garden from just inside the back door to my kitchen. Haven't uploaded all the shots to flickr yet, but here's a few of the ones I have:

The Dunnock was the bird I really wanted to get a good shot of, I'd previously got only a pretty crummy photo of this little chap - actually one of my favourites in the garden. He was rather startled by the shutter noise, but eventually got used to the sound and didn't immediately fly into the shrubs at the first shot.

Lovely pictures, even to a non birdy/twitcher like me. The first is particularly nice and has a very "natural" feel about it.

Thanks guys. It was cold but quite nice out at lunchtime here, the sun was behind some thin cloud so the light was diffused a bit - that helped the shots as they were all backlit.

The Dunnock photo was the one I really really wanted to get and the light then was really soft, which worked well. Not easy to photograph Dunnocks or Tits as they are always moving but I've been working on my timing a lot (I shoot in single shot, not continuous) so my keeper rate is going up - hugely since getting the D300! I'm also trying hard to get a more natural look to my shots when I process the raw files in Lightroom, but that will be a long-term continuous thing - I also need to work on getting the same look across a range of shots, that's something I'm rather lax with as I tend to work on each shot in isolation.

Have a few robin shots too, will upload them later on if I get time.

Dunnock is one of my favourites too.

Quiet and unobtrusive, busily feeding on the path - but what on? I can never see what it's eating, must be microscopic.

Lovely shots Fozzy. Very impressive indeed.
I'm hoping to try something like these myself soon. Got a remote, just need a tripod. I'm thinking set the gear up at a feeder pre-focused and monitor from inside the house.
Need to get on with it soon before I let my cats out.

A Nikon D300, Nikon 300mm f/4 with a Kenko 1.4x teleconverter, tripod-mounted. The camera was in Aperture Priority around f/5.6-f/8 and ISO 800-1000.

Certainly tiny, whatever it is! I know this one likes the little morsels dropped from my feeders.
