A few recent portraits....

Well, we all know I dont stop taking pictures and here are a few more. This is a set up with flash and silver brollies. Low key if you will - prep work for a forth coming 'giggle shot' which I am planning to do for fun. I love em. really I do!

On the tech side, one D3 with an 85mm at F/5.6 with a trigger setting off a flash bouncing back into a silver brolly. I used ex comp down by one stop. The brolly was to my left, the subjects right, to cast the shadow on his left. Thus creating the look.

I am now looking at wireless options regarding distance triggers and fancy an SU-800 but am waiting to see how the new Nikon 50mm F1.4 performs as if it is not up to much then I may think about a Canon 1Ds and L glass.

Re: A few recent portraits....

Hi Pete. Great work - you make it sound so easy!
I prefer no3, as it's just has a hint more character and less of a stare. Not sure wether the wider angle helps with this or whether it's just the expression, but I love it. Just the right amount of detail into the shadowed side.

Re: A few recent portraits....

Love the first for the square crop and colour tint that really suit the subject. Very mean and masculine. Then I love the third one for the subtle brow lift that shows so much more.
Crop on the second one changes the shape of his face, which is odd.

Interesting - hard to see what you'd gain other than a nominal increase in resolution, particularly if shooting under lights.

Speed of short L primes really. At the moment the 50mm is clunky, but looking forward to the new one BIG TIME !!

Yeah interesting trick of the eye. That is why I love 6 x 6 crop for this stuff.

Thanks mate

Agreed then - any news on when the new one turns up. I'm still being told mid-December.

Nice set of portraits, great lighting and processing !!!

I can't work out if the 'self portrait' is a joke or not. Just looks so unlike Pete

Hello there

Very nice Pete.

Love the tight crop and square format of the first one. You have just given me an idea.

Cheers Holo

Re: A few recent portraits....

Hold on. This isn't the first time this whole 'is-this-or-is-this-not-Pete' thing has happened, but considering some of the pics Pete has posted recently, I'm surprised it's happened again.

Am I missing a joke here?
If so, could someone please explain.

Re: A few recent portraits....

To be fair in the Very first Post Pete hasnt said it is himself
He is in the A 900 thread though
In this one
He refers to himself, and the subject as different people

Ive been bantering ( about his twin) but I haven't been under the impression it is him although there is a similarity in personality

OK - it is not me. It is my house mate and forum member Sick Boy.

We have been friends for what 15 years now and we used to be top boys in our firm when we were soccer casuals back in our youth.

True.

Maybe.
