Instant Photos

H,

I've posted before about the need for a good quality camera digital camera that takes instant photos that catch my kids 'in the act' so to speak.

I really need some advice as my current (Fujifilm Finepix) camera is crap in this regard and money is tight - does the following meet my needs? This is the max price for me at the moment.

Canon Digital IXUS 80 IS Camera - Silver 2.5" LCD: Amazon.co.uk: Electronics & Photo

I might be persuaded to go to £150....

Cheers in advance.

Re: Instant Photos

I've had that very cam for a while now. I really like it for what it is, a pocketable nicely made P&S. I can't say it's all that speedy but most P&S never are. The red eye is atrocious but easily fixed on your pc afterwards.

The inability to get "instant pictures" is a limitation of all compact digital cameras even if thier quality is great on less " energetic" or still subjects
There are 3 reasons why this is so:

Auto focus speed

The fact that most kids pictures are taken in doors in lower light; This means the camera may compensate by choosing a slower shutter speed.. this results in blur from camera shake

Shutter lag: his is the time it takes to record the image from when you press the shutter; It is an intrinsic property of the camera but is also affected by AF speed

Most compacts have essentially unacceptably long shutter lag for capturing shots like children's where getting the image " there and then " is the aim
DSLRs are far superior in this regard, as are all film cameras , Compact or SLR

If you can, get a%
