Pretty "touristy" but you have to go to New Jersey to get the best shots of Manhattan - but it's just so simple to do : go to the World Trade Centre subway station, get on the PATH train and ride one stop, under the Hudson, to Exchange Place, come up above ground and there you are - the best views of lower Manhattan you'll get

Plus it'll only cost you a buck fifty on the PATH train
Also, whilst in NJ, go to Elizabeth State Park, as you can get some nice shots from there of both Manhattan and Liberty Island
