Angry Play.com /??Play Trade..click BUY with care

I ordered a Sandisk extreme 3 SD card with reader from Play.com. When it arrived I was suspicious that it was a counterfeit card. It did not come with the card reader & I was fobbed off with the email below. I then spent few hours testing file speeds against my old card, contacting Sandisk & having to photograph the card & email the photos to Sandisk. They have confirmed it is a counterfeit card. I contacted Play.com who said I had to contact the seller & go through the process of sending the card back. I am unhappy about doing this as I will not have any proof about the card being counterfeit once it has gone back. I was telling this to the operator who promptly put the phone down on me. Never again Play.com, NEVER AGAIN.
Any advice would be welcomed.

email.

Hi There seems to be some confusion we do not sell these with card reader and Play.com does not have picture for card on its own but the listing you bought from was for card only i am happy to take back and refund your sale in full and apologise for confusion at our end

It seems I went through one of there resellers.

I think you bought from play trade? play.com is ok but watch what you buy from play trade because they can sell you anything, a bit like buying from one of the traders on amazon. I have bought a few memory cards direct from play and have never had any problems but did read about someone who bought what they thought was a 4gb card and it was only 2gb that said 4gb on it, play told them to return the card and they sent out the right one.

That does surprise me in that the two cards I have bought from Play.com have been fine with all the usual extras (pouches etc).

I agree - Play.com have always offered me fantastic service and price. Personally I'd never by through Play Trade or the Amazon version of it. Worse than ebay in my experience.

I didn't buy through a trader. I just clicked 'BUY' This was on Play's own page.

I think the resellers on the play website are all the people who sell under the "play trade" name.

re: Play.com /??Play Trade..click BUY with care

I have had excellent service from play.com - the company

However, for traders operating under the "market place type of situation" caveat emptor.

Under the BUY button in small letters it says "In stock at PlayTrade"

I am also amazed. I asked what they would do & the guy said there wasn't much they could do. He was talking from an Indian call center.

I find it really annoying at both Play and Amazon that they use other sellers, which arent always apparent until you go to pay for the item. As others have said they are quite often worse than many ebay sellers. Surely people like Play must loose customers when they let these dodgy people sell through them.

re: Play.com /??Play Trade..click BUY with care

Well I got a result. This is the email from the seller.

Quote:
Hi Im sorry to hear your unhappy with the product we sent you
We only sell authentic products We sell end of line and product not made originally for the UK market but for other Euro regions That the only reason we can retail at the price we do
There will be cosmetic differences but the build quality should however be the same
As we operate a 100% satisfaction or refund policy I have a moment ago refunded your sale in full
No need to go to the trouble and expense of returning item I have saved your message as proof of fault/complaint for credit from my supplier
Best regards Jim
So it looks like I have a 4 gig 'normal' card for free. TBH I only posted about this when Play.com put the phone down on me. I had not been rude to the operator & expected better service from them, under the circumstances. I asked for the name & address of the MDs office. They told me they did not have this information. I was under the impression that a Limited company HAD to give you that information. Oh well off to take some'slow' photos.

The place you bought it from could be telling you the truth you know, I used to work with a Polish guy who bought memory cards and cameras in the U.K. even though they are slightly cheaper in his country, he said the stuff you buy in Poland is not good quality even though its the same make and model.

Re: Play.com /??Play Trade..click BUY with care

I've just bought two digital cameras from play.com, both arrived three days later, o.k their boxes were a little tatty here and there but the cameras were fine, and saved me a tidy little sum than if i'd have bought them locally.

Re: Play.com /??Play Trade..click BUY with care

Sorry to hear you had a bad experience. As many have already said, the play trade and amazon marketplace are best avoided really. I pretty much never buy from amazon at all these days as it's so difficult to find an item that they actually sell themselves, and postage and delivery times seem rather random. Quite a change from how it used to be when I'd pretty much make all my online purchases with them! Hope play don't go the same way with this play trade thing or I'll be buying elsewhere.

Looks like when you go to your basket on play it does show "seller" under the item so well worth double checking that before you go through the checkout in future.

Re: Play.com /??Play Trade..click BUY with care

Must admit, I have bought plenty from playtrade and not had many problems. Any I did have were sorted by lay under their guarentee. \just had to contact the seller via play.com, when an unsatisfactory conclusion is reached, they step in, refund you and chase the seller. Much like amazon market place. Never had to phone either compnay as email contact seems much quicker and efficient.
