[Alien Cranium]

Hi ya,

I'm looking for advice on which camera to choose to please both me and the missus.

We both want a camera that looks like a SLR, sturdy and well built and takes great pics. I'm happy to get one like the Olympus E-510 but it doesn't take videos. The wife insists that we have a 'video mode' for filming the kids at Christmas and other events, fair enough, but i can't find any. Well, the only one I can find is the lovely Canon D90 but unfortunately this is over our budget .

I really don't want to buy a compact unless you can convince me that they are as good as SLR's.

So can anyone recommend a dual purpose camera or should we buy 2 cameras instead?

Canon G9 / G10 Not really a compact and not really an SLR but does decent video too.

Only 2 SLR's that do video is the D90 (dodgy and no autofocus) and the 5DmkII which is expensive.

Much better buying a P&S or 2 cameras (for now).
