Hello All,

I'm off up to Glasgow for a few days around the middle of next month with the wife (I've been promising to take her up North for ages and will also be attending my 9th Paul Weller gig of the year - a mere co-incidence I assure you)

I'd really like to get out and about whilst up there and we both are planning to see as much as we can over the three days that we are there so any suggestions of where to go - photo friendly or not would be more than appreciated.

some of the listings are rubbish but you should find something up you street.
or just get out a walk about the town centre if nothing else you will get a good chuckle at us all.

Clubs?Daytime activates?Places to eat?
Glasgow great,I love it and luckily its on 25mins away for me.
Also what days are you going to be there?Eg fri sat

Hi konastab01,

We are driving up on Thursday and leaving sometime Sunday, we'll be based in Glasgow in the Merchants City...but that's where my knowledge ends lol

So basically looking for suitable places to visit within driving distance relating to animals, building or especially really good scenics.

If you know of any good eateries that would also be a bonus TIA

btw, take it your user name relates to the bike as in Kona Stab?

Loads of fancy old red sandstone buildings dotted around glasgow and fabulous new architecture too.

SECC and the Armadillo are nice buildings and next to them is the Science Centre, which i really should make an effort to see myself. Most of the time, theres a really old sail ship next to that too.

And if you want scenic head out the A82 (The Great Western Road) through Dumbarton and go down the side of Loch Lomond. Should be able to stop and get some nice shots down there and it's only around 30-45 mins from town centre.

Maybe i'm missing something then, as i live at the South of the Loch and don't anything worthwhile photographing. :D

If you're at souhof the loch then you must be near Cardross etc....You could pop over there to shoot that old falling down seminary building. It's pretty popular with the 28 days later style urban explorers. You must also be only 45-60 mins from Rannoch Moor etc...possibly the most photographed landscape area in Scotland.... I know what you mean though. I'm from Broomhill in west end and lived 30 odd years in and around Glasgow and I find it hard to see it with a photographers eye....

I'm in Alexandria. Carman hill gives some great views down the Clyde and right up to the Ben, but it's the "areas" around that bring the place down.

I know the church you mean and have often thought about stopping, but i get scared the locals will look at me funny.

One other place i'd LOVE to see/photograph is the old monks training centre....you know that one?

Merchant City isnt too far from the city centre. 5 mins ish walk depending on were you are.
But not the end of the world.
You have the Goma(Gallery of modern art)its free to get into and it right in the centre of glasgow.
You have the shops all around the city centre.Except from my knowledge there isnt a great camera shop about the city centre.
You have the botanical Gardens down the west end.Where byers rd and great western rd cross.
Jump on the subway and it will take you down as parking down there at the weekend/days can be a nightmare and theres is wardens everywhere somedays.
There is lots of small cafes/eateries down here and up great western rd too.
A couple of my favorite(usually go down well on first dates)
You have two fat ladies(its a fish restraunt)Very nice,not the cheapest,and you can basically see you food getting cooked at the front.

Another one is Rogano's in Royal Exchange Square
And then a few doors down in the square you have Dimaggio's
Its not a michelin star restraunt but the food does taste good.Pizzas,pasta and the deserts are pretty good too.
Shop wise.You have the usual Hmv,foot locker(Anti christ),zavvi
If you into designer you have cruise(personally its only for footballers and arseholes)Its far too pompus for me.
All Saints(Ingram St I get a better vide from here and the staff are pretty nice too) is pretty good too along with Cult on Queen st
Another one is Size its basically a trainer shop but you can get some descent kicks in it.
You have aspecto with is just off gordon st.They do some rare ish adidas trainers.
Then last but not least possible one of my favorite shops in glasgow!
Fat Buddha,Great gear,they do vinyl toys and lots of funky books on a arrange of diffrent stuff.

Burrell Collection is well worth a visit The Burrell Collection
Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum was reopened recently (last year I think) after a major refurbishment Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum
If you're visiting the Art Gallery and like Indian food, I would strongly recommend (very strongly) Mother India's Cafe. It's pretty much straight across the road from the main entrance. It does Thali which is Indian style tapas. Fantastic.
