Canon G3 v's S45

Apart from the slightly better lens on the G series camera, is there any significant difference between the two?
I was thinking of getting a G3 (or more likely a G5) but am now considering one of the Powershot series instead, smaller, lighter & cheaper!
(But I'm not sure )

Cheers, Paul
