Smile D700 - Castle Howard Gallery

I've had a Nikon D700 and 24-70 lens for a few days now and I went to try it out at Castle Howard, North Yorkshire recently.

Here's my gallery if you'd like to take a look.
Zenfolio | Marque | Castle Howard

The camera is amazing, from using it at ISO 200 up to 6400.
I used to think the D300 with 70-200VR lens was heavy, but it's light weight compared to the D700 & 24-70

Thanks for viewing
Any feedback is appreciated

For crying out loud - you were way too good with a D300

There are some fantatstic shots there and then there are some down right stunning shots!

Re: D700 - Castle Howard Gallery

I grew up near Castle Howard and I am always amazed by it's beauty.

You have captured the absolute character of the place and really makes me want to go back for a shoot.

BTW were these handheld or tripod?

Thank you Sir
I was OK with the D300, but it always seemed noisy to me.

Speechless in a good or bad way
I import into Nikon NX2, do a bit a tickering, colour correct etc.
Then play around in CS3 and use Nik Software Plugins.

Thank you.
The interior shots were hand held, they don't allow tripods.
Supposedly it damaged the floor
I used up to ISO 6400 in the Chapel.
They do allow flash, even though some Stately Homes claim it fades the furnishing , but I shot with ambient light.

The outside shots I used a tripod.

Very nice indeed - wonderful autumn colour.

Good to see another Zenfolio user as well.

You guess

So when you open the raw file in NX2, do you keep it in raw file when you open in CS3 or converted to different format?

Also what do you usually tinkering in NX2 and CS3

Many thanks

Re: D700 - Castle Howard Gallery

Radiohead,
Thank you.
I like Zenfolio's presentation, it's the best looking hosting site I've seen.
But what I don't like is the poor Panorama displaying and when I search for an image on Google, no images from Zenfolio members are shown (in the first 10 or so pages).

Willykatie,
When I open a file in NX2, I usually colour correct and try out different White Balance settings, just to see if there's an improvement.
Then I use the Colour Control Points, brighten/darken etc.
I use the "Open With" in NX2 to open it as a TIFF file within CS3.

In CS3, I straighten the image and clean up any distractions, people or dust on lens etc (yes people do get on the lens )
The plugins I use most are Nik Software Color Efex Pro 3.1 and for Black & White, Nik Software Silver Efex Pro 1.0.

Within the Color Efex Pro 3.1 plugin, I use the Tonal Contrast and a few others.
Then I do the usually, levels/curves etc
Then when I've finished, I reduced the size to 50% and Save To Web, with a maximum size of 1.2 MB's
I don't bother keeping a full size version, because I never print any or do anything with my shots apart from uploading to my site.

TarMoo,
Thank you, no. 23 was taken with the 70-200 VR lens.
