I won something!

Recently Cambridge Water ran a competition for people in the Cambridge water region. The theme (surprisingly) was "Water". Anyway I entered the 3 pictures below and the one entitled "Return Call" won one first prize in the Adult Amateur category!

I've won a Photography Master Class with a famous landscape tog called Tom Mackie. Must be honest I've never heard of him but hopefully I'll learn a lot from him.

Anyway I thought I'd share my pictures. The thing I'm most happy about is all three are being used in an exhibition in Cambridge for a few weeks.

I had a chat with the editor of the Cambridge Evening News while I was at the presentation evening last night and am hoping to get some work out of it.

Wow what can I say. I am really honoured that you all took the time to respond and to offer your congratulations.

As I look to go professional in the new year the one thing I know I lack is self belief. Having such quality togs as yourselves offer such kind comments really gives me the confidence I need.

Congratulations - Tom Mackie by the way is very very good in my opinion. I have one of his books, Photos with Impact (or something similar) and its great. Every photo in that book is top.

I went to one of his "talks" at focus on imaging earlier this year - very good, he's enthusiastic but very down to earth - I think you'll (and most people would) really benefit from that prize.

Hey, thanks for that. I'm sure I'll pick up quite a bit from him. I saw a few of his pictures at the presentation evening and noticed many of them were taken from high ground. I think one of the reasons I don't do much in the way of landscape photography is because it's flat as a pancake round this part of the world.

Perhaps he'll show us how to make the fens look interesting

Confession - when I first saw this shot I stood starring at the puddle for ages to try to get the full word "Telephone" into the reflection.

All very well but this was in the city centre of Cambridge right near the market! All the tourists walking by were gawping at me as if I'd gone totally mad.

Which I have; but that's not the point.
