Wells Cathedral (Internal shots)

As Wells is just down the road from me I decided to to have a go at taking some internal shots of this wonderful Cathedral. All photo's have been tweaked a bit in Iphoto (Contrast, exposure, saturation, some cropped).

All were taken with the NIKON AF-S DX 12-24MM F4G IF ED

1. Beyond the door

2. Christ

3. Pipe Dreams

4. Pillars

5. Lighting the room (shame the highlights in the window are blown)

6. Mono Windows

Re: Wells Cathedral (Internal shots)

#3 gives a real sense of scale, nicely photographed. I also like #4 but if you could have moved to the right a bit more to seperate the pillar in the foreground from the one behind it would have had a touch more impact IMO, a touch more contrast wouldn't go amiss either.

Nice set fella - love #4 in particular. Looks like it could have been a tricky exposure though - was it?

Well done

I see where your coming from Steve, I took a few different angles so I'll have a play and upload an alternative later. Thanks.

Thanks Ryan,

Most of the Cathedral is quite well lit by both natural and artificial light, this room was very well lit on the ceiling and the walls, so a long exposure was quite difficult (Most of the shots were taken in Manual exposure on tripod).

I had my Cokin filters with me and the cokin wide adaptor fitted, I should of used an ND filter really. Oh and one annoyance with the Cokin Wide adaptor is that on my 12-24 I'm seeing Vignetting at the wide end, I went for the Cokin wide adaptor to reduce this, perhaps 12mm on a 1.5 crop (18mm) is just too wide.

Re: Wells Cathedral (Internal shots)

It may be too wide, although I use a cut-down Kood filter mount on my Sigma 10-20mm (I hacksawed off the front slot, leaving two positions) and I think that was ok... to be honest I can't quite remember as it's quite a while since I used the 10-20mm and filters!

Re: Wells Cathedral (Internal shots)

Great shots indeed, especially like numbers 1 and 4, would like to see a colour version of number 6 as well think that would look great.

Re: Wells Cathedral (Internal shots)

All very good, but especially number 4 for me - that one says 'book cover' to me in a way!

Yeah it does - like a gatefold cover.

Put it on a stock site

That would be a cracking idea but I'd need a release to make a profit from any of the Cathedral shots. The permit gives you permission to take shots inside but specifically states that any shots are not be sold without written permission.
