Is there any benefit getting an SDHC card over an SD apart from speed?

No, but in my experience (and according to some logic regarding chickens and baskets) - its safer to have more smaller cards rather than just one large one. If one fails or gets corrupted, its good to have a backup - so I'd go for more 2gb cards instead of an 8/16gb cards. No real benefit to the SDHC cards unless:

Your file sizes are absolutley huge - eg RAW+uncompressed 16 bit Tiff file / 45megapixel sensor / Shooting high quality video.

Never had a card fail on me but I think some people on here have - it might never happen but you never know.

bang per buck 4gb cards are the price sweet point. Cards do fail, long write speeds mean more chance for corruption belive it or not. get two 4gb if you are bothered. Fill up a 2gb normal SD card and whilst you are still d/l images, I'll have made a brew and be having a smoke.
