Help printing with Lightroom

Has anyone managed to print with lightroom and get good results?

I have played about with the settings. trying to print to 6x4 photo paper, but doesn't come out properly, not only do I get borders but the image printed does not look the same as the image on screen, i.colours are way off and not borderless.

When I export the image to JPEG and print using vista photo viewer I just select 6 x 4 and borderless and out comes a perfect copy with colours spot on as the on screen image

For the vista one I'm using the monitors/graphics card colour pallette, not sure about lightroom..

Why do they make it so complicated, I like the fact you can view the master image along side your edited one, could never find that feature in aperture, but dislike the printing and the image sorting options, for aperture you just select new project and name it and everything is done for you, but for light room you have to make a new folder, name it select the location on your computer, very confusing..

Re: Help printing with Lightroom

I remember having such an issue with my Canon Selphy. A search through the forum will find it as I cannot remember what I posted

I use XP so cannot be sure about Vista but I think it is because different colour profiles are used...

Re: Help printing with Lightroom

I've struggled with Lightroom printing as well. Trying to get rid of the borders is a pain, but I've achieved it but didn't realise until later, and have no idea how I did so. There is a way though.

Regarding colours - are you using the "let printer manage colours" option?

Re: Help printing with Lightroom

No problems here printing borderless - just go to page setup, select paper size (borderless) and away it goes. But, if the cell size is smaller than the paper, or you have margins set, then you'll still get borders. And if the image isn't filling the paper in the preview window then select 'Zoom to Fill'. And make sure you haven't got 'Stroke Border' selected.

And, as Tobers says - letting the printer manage the colours should yield good results.

Re: Help printing with Lightroom

You'll need to select the borderless option in the actual printer driver first, this is accessed through the print settings button in Lightroom. Once you have done that, then Lightroom will allow you to move the margin sliders to zero...

However, if Lightroom can't determine that you've enabled bordlerless printing from your driver then you're . Another example of Lightroom trying to be too clever, and where less is sometimes more.

In Lightroom 2, they've removed the big printer settings button and hidden it under the file menu.

Because print drivers will zoom the picture to spill over slightly, you might get better results creating a custom page size in your printer driver if it allows it. This might fool Lr into actually displaying the image as borderless.
