Was in work on Saturday, and went for another walk after I finished to get some shots of the contemporary artwork around the Square Mile - I've personally been enjoying taking the camera to work the last few weekends, as I take much more notice of my surroundings than I do when I pass them every day of the week. Sorry if this is a long post....
Comments and criticisms welcome.
First off, the Broad Family by Xavier Corbero - it's meant to represent a family, plus dog. This is the child with its ball, and I walked past this for about 6 years before I noticed the feet at the bottom !
The Broadgate Venus by Botero - this is fairly well known in the city, so I thought I'd try a different angle - in hindsight, not sure if this could do with some more space in the frame.
I moved onto Spitalfields market, which over the last few years has undergone a massive, if sometimes controversial regeneration. I think it is an amazing mix of the old and new, sitting side by side, and sometimes on top of each other.
This is called Lines of Communication, and is meant to represent the Civil War fortifications of London in the 1700's.
I then noticed there was an 'urban' lilypond in between all the newly erected towers and such, and thought it was nice to see something natural among all the buildings.
As I walked into the market itself, I was struck by how empty the space was when then stalls weren't set up and there were no customers - I tried to capture that, but I think I just got a load of empty tables ?
Opposite the market was this fantastic grocers, Verde and Co. You don't see shops like that very often these days - worth a look at the large size for the detail.
As I was heading back to the station, I came across this little lane, which had a lovely quality of light shining across it, and the place itself has a timeless quality - not sure I have done it justice though..
There are a few more on flickr, but this post is probably long enough - if you made it this far, thanks for looking !!
