Stop Knives, Save Lives, The Peoples March

Hello there

Bit off a strange one for me today.

Went to Hyde park, wish I had caught the march on route but had other things on.

Went to the People march, everyone was very emotion and it was a bit off a tough one.

Any way will carry on with the pictures and try and talk you through my thinking.

First one was actually the last picture I took. The reason I took it was to give everyone an idea how I am going to process these. Idea came to me about blacking the background out and adding colour to the B&W the more shots I got.

This one was a big banner at the back of the stage.

The next lady had the most effect on me, because of that I sort of messed the shot up. Forgot about setting, forgot to turn my flash, blah blah blah. I will hold my hands up and say its not one of the best shots I have taken.

While chatting to this lady she told me her grandson had been killed, and it sort of got to me somehow.

What I will be trying to show you is that these are ordinary people who's lives have been effected one way or another by mindless violence, that's the only way I can really put it.

Please let me know what you think, all CC welcome good and bad.

Cheers Holo

Powerful stuff. I can imagine talking with anyone affected with knife crime [let alone losing a relative to it] would make you forget about camera settings. Still it's a good photo and gets the point across. Maybe the lack of facial details can be a good thing - maybe more people might then be able to relate to her [by imagining a person they know in her place]

Might advise you take more of the black off the top so the red is more centered.

Nice idea with the banner image - thought it was a Photoshop design

Yeah I understand how easy it could be to forget the settings.

Sounds like powerful stuff, this shot certainly is. The selective colouring really suits this. Well captured.

I thought the top image was an advertisement! Nice one.

They had one of those promotion stalls in the middle of the store.
They were not only promoting the sharpest knife in the world which along with a few other goodies you could buy at the end of the 5 minute sales pitch but they were giving away a free knifes to other people in the audience. It wasn't the biggest knife in the world and one part of it had a spiral to do those flower patterns with tomatoes but there was still a sharp 3-4 inch blade with it. It could definitely do serious damage at close quarters in the wrong hands.

They've been doing them for a while as my wife picked one up at the Hoover Building store about 4 months ago. They are seriously sharp, hence the name. She bought a set of about 5 or 6, but yes you're right, they give away a very little one absolutely free to ANYONE. Fits in the pocket nicely.Bit of luck, it'll slice their fingers when they try to pull them out of their pockets. That'll learn them !!

it is irresponsible..wasn't some one recently knifed in a supermarket by a schizo??

do an online offer, or take deatils and post a free kitchen "utensil"
we know it's a blade, a knive...3-4in sharp knive will do damage...

Don't beat yourself up over the photo of the lady. The selective colouring works very well and I think the picture conveys the feeling of the event.

Re: Stop Knives, Save Lives, The Peoples March

Thanks all for all the comments on this.

Didn't know weather I had the PP skill to achive what I set out to do. One thing along the way I have learnt new method in how to do some of the PP.

Pete I suppose this is a sort of project for me.

Anyway here another, this bloke had carried this poster ,he made himself, on the march and was still displaying it in Hyde park. Have linked this to on black which I think looks better.
