Some large ladies (arachnophobia warning)

The wet weather has suited the spider population quite well, judging by the number and size of them in the garden. Shot these today of a very well rounded garden spider.

Both taken with D50, Tamron 90mm macro, diffused on board flash, ISO 200, 1/125, f16.

Very nice shots Jomike, really liking the second one. As you say the spider population seems very high at the moment, I must have seen at least six in the garden today but they were all in the same position and I couldnt get any interesting pictures of them.

Superb stuff chap. Nice clean, sharp shots. Genuinely sent a shiver down my back though.

Thanks for the comments all.

Spiders are better subjects than most bugs in that they sit still for long periods. (unless the web that they are in is blowing in the wind).

Re: Some large ladies (arachnophobia warning)

Nice. Was trying to photograph some of these yesterday morning, there were loads in the woods but I managed to blunder into the web of one and so it was crawling all over me. Am 'slightly' less bothered by spiders than I used to so didn't freak out but did have to carefully take off my pack, camera, bins and jacket and make sure it was off me - partly because I didn't want a big spider crawling on me and partly because i didn't want to squash the poor thing after already wrecking it's web!

Re: Some large ladies (arachnophobia warning)

I imagine macro photography is a great cure for critter phobias, although it is not something I have ever suffered from.

I have been bitten many years ago, by a brown button spider (close relative of the black widow) in South Africa which made my hand swell up like a sausage for a few days, but that hasn't put me off.

Re: Some large ladies (arachnophobia warning)

There is no doubting the excelllence of the photography
You are making fantastic use of the Tamron..Which is also a great portrait lens IIRC

I dont very much like spiders though.. but snakes i really detest
