Some of my pics from Chester Zoo.

Came home with a nice chunk or standard animal "portraits" and a good amount of (hopefully) different shots.

Hard to pick a highlight from the day however, standing in the "bat cave" with my four year old daughter calling lefts and rights as Fruit bats panned overhead was a good laugh, didnt manage to get one though

Most taken with the sigma 70-200 handheld.

Just prior to the below shot these chimps were reaching out to a large fish in the water, when the fish surfaced the younger guy legged it! this is the resulting hug of comfort from an older female!

My Dad enjoying a well deserved break, he was on pushchair duty most of the day

Lucky shot below as the Orangs were very elusive and the upstairs of the indoor enclosure was jammed with people. They move surprisingly fast even with a lil hitchiker on board!

After going through the entire Jaguar exhibit with no sightings, just as we were moving on he appeared, and came right up to the front for a pose!

All pics clickable for the flickrs and larger options, kept these small to help load times.

C&C appreciated, this was my first experience with a SLR in this kind of environment, off to knowsley safari soon so tips welcome!

1st snake shot is really good. Love the Jaguar shot - very lucky to see it. (I had no luck when i went!)

The Chimps on the poles - cant see much detail in thier fur, seems slightly dark.

All the shots are very sharp throughout.

Been to Chester Zoo loads of times and never seen the Jaguar moving, lucky man and a greaty shot, pick of the bunch.

Knowsely, make sure you have a CPL as You'll have your windows shut most of the time. Unless you are me and lean right out your car in the lion enlcosure

the only dissapointing thing with knowsley is the Tiger enclosure, you'll be lucky to see them. And you''ll be shooting through a cross type fence.

Manually focused with cpl, straight from the camera basic jpeg, resized for here. I then forgot I had it in manual and proceeded to mess up all my lion enclosure pics, so be warned.
The Baboons can be quite scarey for little ones as they dive all over your car but it's the best part of going if you ask me.

The Jaguar shot is great,excellent pic

A very solid set. The portraits are spot on, particularly the tortoise. Super sharp too considering the shutter speed @ 200mm.
Jaguar shot is a great capture and again, very sharp. The contemplating ape is a lovely photo. Where is it on your flickr?
I love the orang shot, but viewed large it seems not to be as sharp as the others which is a shame. Was it moving a fair bit?

Ack, I can just image my girlfriend freaking out if i leant out the window...

Done that manual settings thing a few times myself Or even worse asked GF to hold camera and she's moved the wheel without me realising, I moan, she sulks for ages...

Need to grab a 77mm cpl at some point, buggers arent cheap.

The Orang was moving pretty quick, was also shooting from directly above through some thick glass with a scouse family nudging me around lol!

me too, forgot about filters when buying my new glass...oops. Freaking funny as looking at my poor little d60 with the 18-200 plus sb600 on it, no more gym workouts for me!!

ahah! and i thought my 450 looked funny, wonder if i could convice the missus to get me a flash for "comedy value"!

Doh, had someone else say the same, not sure whats happened, will have a look whats going on!

Very strange, anyone who looks at my flickr can only see one item in the set, I see 59 lol. Tried recreating the set but it makes no difference.

The pics are in the photostream, just not loading my "organise" settings.

All privacy etc settings are as should be.

Will leave it a bit and see if it updates, will probably end up with 5 sets of the same pics with slightly differing names >.<
