Re: Photos from Cornwall

Love the colourfulness of your aquarium picture.
The shot of your son in the go-kart takes me back...I have great memories of go-karting near Newquay many many years ago.....towards Padstow possibly?? (twas a long time ago though )
Your 'cheeky candid' needs a bit of Chromatic Aberration correction - very easy to do within Lightroom

Thanks Colin. The go-karting was at St Eval which is nearer Padstow than Newquay. And only 2 miles from our campsite.

Nice stuff Simon, the light looks lovely.

Surprised that you weren't camped out overnight to see the cooling towers come down. I was sure you were going to be posting shots of the demo today.

Nice set (the photos).
I'd love to know more aout that house on the right on the rock in #3.
Is it a house, does someone actually live there, how much is it? How do they get into it ?

Blimey that's the place......must be 30 years ago when I was there. Trevone is where I spent many childhood holidays. Spookily, so did my wife although it was many years later when we met.

Thanks mate. Light wasn't like this for most of the holiday - it was mainly grey and very wet!

Sorry to disappoint you but I didn't go. I was tempted to but it took me 8 hours to drive back from Cornwall to Sheffield yesterday so I was shattered. I also wasn't quite sure where the best viewpoint was and I assumed the best views would be crowded.

there are some great shots of the demolition on the Sheffield flickr group though if that helps.

blimey you've got a good memory. I think they had a plaque up commemorating your lap record or something like that. It was very dusty!

I love that part of the world - it really is beautiful. My son and I have stayed at a campsite near St Merryn and Porthcothan Bay for 2 years running now. Not sure if we'll make it 3 years running but we've had a great time on each trip.

Who knows, perhaps in 30 years time he'll look on a forum and see a photo from the kart track like you...

It fascinated me too. I did see someone walking along the bridge to get to the house so I guess someone lives there. Didn't have enough time to go and get a closer look but I did get a quick photo of the person walking along the bridge:

According to this website the house on the island is owned by Lord and Lady Long whoever they are so it is a real home. What a place to live!

Re: Photos from Cornwall

Back in 2000, my wife and I had our honeymoon in Cornwall (long story as to why we didn't go somewhere more exotic ), and visited Newquay.

While there, we actually went onto the house on the rock, as back then, it was a teashop called The Island, and very nice it was too..

In fact, later that day, we were walking around Newquay when my wife found an art gallery to look around, and we ended up buying a painting of Towan Beach by a local artist called Tom Page, as a momento, and the island and house are there in the painting.

Anyway, sorry for the ramble... Nice photos..

Re: Photos from Cornwall

Great shots Simon. The colours are beautiful.
The sunset from the pub is a beaut as is the one of the parrot feeding from the hand. I love the pano too, well executed.
Oh, and nice candid. Better than bringing us all a stick of rock anyway.
Used to holiday in Newquay as a kid, around 79-81 IIRC. Still remember Towan beach, that bridge is so distinctive. And Mamas and the Papas in the car on the way down. Cheers for bringing back some good memories.

Re: Photos from Cornwall

Thanks for the nice comments guys. I have to say I'm having Cornwall-withdrawal symptoms. I really want to go back especially as it is work tomorrow

No need to apologise for the ramble. And I reckon Cornwall would make a lovely spot for a honeymoon.

Cool - we probably weren't too far away from each other. I'd be interested in seeing your pics. Feel free to post them to this thread.

Nice shots, Simon.

I like the one of the person walking along the bridge - nice capture. Might make a nice mono with some dramatic processing.
