Some from Paris

I went to Paris recently with the family for our summer holiday.

...a bit of Asterix parc, some sightseeing and some Disney. A great time was had by all. Paris is staggeringly beautiful and, without exception, all the French people we met were polite and helpful.

Here's some pics:

How I managed to captue this, I don't know...the 3 kids in focus on this fast moving chair ride are mine! [girl white top, girl blue top, boy grey hoodie]

This would have been good for the urban comp last month.

Taken from an open top bus at the Arc de Triomphe, looking down the Champs Elysees towards the Grande Arche de La Defense [that structure impressed us more than the Eiffel Tower]. I really like the sense of distance and scale on this one.

A pleasing early evening shot of the Sleeping Beauty's Castle at DLP.

All done with a Panasonic TZ3 compact.

524 more actually, but most are snapshots. I just posted what I thought were the more interesting photos.

Yeah, I'll stand by my comment. Before we left, I'd heard so many comments about Paris being dirty and the French being "difficult". Although we didn't go much of the beaten track, in our opinion, neither were true. Regarding the attitude of the French, I suppose it's like any nationality - you greet them with a smile, some courtesy and an attempt at their home language and you'll be fine.

Reap what you sow I say.

Re: Some from Paris

OK, after reading Chip Nicely's thread, I'm bumping this one for comments.
It's had 175 views and the only comment so far was from the moderator [thanks senu]. Are they not arty enough for you lot? Is it 'cos I used a compact? Are they crap? Maybe they're so good you're speechless? Maybe you just don't like me?

I am actually quite pleased with the set - 4 totally different pics each with some merit I thought.

So, good or bad...give it straight .

Re: Some from Paris

2 and 3 are top drawer.

I love the movement on the escalator and the vanishing point is great. Likewise with the road shot.

Re: Some from Paris

I agree the 2nd pic is very good.

Look on the bright side with a compact your unlikely to get arrested in public

Re: Some from Paris

I missed this last time and wasn't one of the 175 .

I think 1 and especially 2 are the pick of the bunch. No 1 might have been artistically better with a slightly wider view but then you might not have been able to see your kids. But 2 is a cracker - I love the mixture of bright colours on the sides of the tunnel and the stark whiteness of the rest with the lights. And I love how the alternating ceiling lights draw you into the centre of the image. Lovely.

3 and 4 don't really do anything for me though. 3 would have worked better if the larger buildings in the distance weren't so misty. And 4, although it has a lovely blue coloured sky, isn't really that interesting a subject. It probably doesn't help that I'm not much of a Disneyland fan.

Re: Some from Paris

Thanks for the comments .

#1 really was difficult as the ride was very fast so I took some pics on burst setting. I agree it could be better composed.

#2 I'm really pleased with - the vanishing point works as do the colours and the white lights. Also the blurred action on the left. I've got another subway one here but it doesn't have the same effect:

#3 is my favourite. To grab this from a moving open top bus was special. What I like is how the buildings at the far end really look far away - you've got the colour and clarity of the cars and trees on the Champs Elysee which lead gradually to the misty modern skyscrapers at the end, and I must say it's composed rather well.

#4, I can see now is nothing more than a nice holiday snap. It means something to me but it's not a photograph to show off.
