New Lens.....

Well new to me but actually 18 years old(same age as My son). But what a lens.
I bought a 80-200 f/2.8 L of ebay for (i think) a good price.havent had much play with it yet but heres a couple i took(nothing exciting). The glass is MINT not a scratch, scuff blemish of any kind, the body is a little(not much though) tatty.Zoom is smooth, focus is spot on.I know Canon no longer service this lense but ill cross that bridge if and when i come to it.Anyway whats your thoughts guys/gals.

I dont know if its converting to jpg from raw or maybe flickr but they seem to of lost that "Tack" Sharp, the originals however are super sharp.
EDIT:Forgot to say no PP whatsoever just straight out of the camera.

Excellent ....
I have lenses that are 30 years old and imo are far superior to the newer ones.

Re: New Lens.....

I used to have the same lens - was fantastic. A couple of things to watch though - try to avoid using the af/mf switch as they're a bit weak and if it breaks in af mode you're stuck with an af lens. Also - in hot weather the rubber on the zoom ring can expand and get a little baggy. Other than that its a great lens.

Yeah i know about the AF/M switch i shall treat it with kid gloves.

The rubber on this one seems all ok.

These lenses are commonly know as "Magic Drainpipe"

only found out the other day.Alot of people DO rate this lens and to be honest i can see why,its lovely.

EDIT:also my x2 tele works 100% with it.Woooohhhooooo

Re: New Lens.....

I bought one orf these http://www.adaptall-2.com/lenses/19AH.html a week ago on Ebay, brand new and very rare for £80 delivered. It does 1:2.6 macro as it is and I bought the matched 2x Teleconverter for £20 which gives 1:1.3 macro .. the lens is manual focus and just awsome, it has not been off my camera body since I got it, I don't even really need a macro lens now tbh.
The colours and brokeh are really only bettered by one other lens I have .. a Pentax-M 50mm F4 1:2 macro lens which is at least 30 years old.

Nice one, some old lenses are fantastic considering how old they are.

You need an ES-79 - same hood as the 85/1.2 L.

I've heard that phrase too. Think it was in a photography podcast or something. Looks like a cracking lens.
