What's An Alternative To The Velbon Ultra Luxi F

Hey,

Having missed out on one of these before it would now seem the product is discontinued

I'm off travelling around Europe in September and really want to take a tripod with me - the one I have is way to bulky though.

Is there a recommended replacement for the Luxi ? Or does anyone know of anywhere that still sells them?

in some currys/currys digital stores you can get a manfrotto 715B for £30 which is compact and sturdy. it is discontinued, but there are still a fair few stores with them, the ones around here have a fair few

Re: What's An Alternative To The Velbon Ultra Luxi F

I have one of these (or very similar) ....

Manfrotto MN785B Modo Maxi

Manfrotto MN785B Modo Maxi £48.99
http://www.warehouseexpress.com/prod...px?sku=1014517

Or an even better deal...

Manfrotto Modo 785B + free MN676B £48.99
http://www.warehouseexpress.com/prod...x?sku=10000459

or
Manfrotto Modo Maxi Crumpler Bundle (Manfrotto 785B Modo Maxi + Crumpler Pretty Boy XL ) £49.99
http://www.warehouseexpress.com/prod...x?sku=10000440

It's a little short and light - so not the best to use on soft surfaces - but does the job and is light. No replacement for my 055 Pro, but I wouldn't take my 055 on holiday when I have all the kids stuff to pack.

That's a cracking deal including the bag, is it any good? Mixed reviews on Amazon talking about it ending up a bit top heavy.

Anyone got experience with the Luxi L range ? Spoke to a few online stores today and they said the L series was the replacement for the F series ?

Re: What's An Alternative To The Velbon Ultra Luxi F

I have just got the Velbon Ultra Luxi L and it looks cool in black. Seems very good to me and folds up quite small and is light and fairly sturdy. £65 delivered with a storage bag included from Morris Photo Here

It recently won the best compact tripod in the August Photoplus Magazine test.

Hope this helps

Re: What's An Alternative To The Velbon Ultra Luxi F

Yes it's the Velbon Luxi L I'm thinking about. It says 2KG maximum load which is about 500g heavier than my maximum combo.

Going to head into town on Saturday to see if any of the shops have it for a play.
