Here is some pictures with my new camera the Panasonic TZ5. This is the fourth digital camera I have had and probably the last compact one until I get a SLR in a few years.

Anyway my first camera was only 0.3 MegaPixel and the second 1.3 MegaPixel, the third 6 MegaPixel and this one 9 MegaPixel.

The thing is that I noticed a big difference between the first three cameras but not between the third and fourth camera. Is this normal? or am I not using the correct settings? This camera has more setting than I have had before so it might be I'm not using the correct settings.

Anyway here is some sample pictures:

Please can you let me know if the images are of the quality expected for this camera or what I should be doing to make them look better.

Very nice from what I can see but they are much too large for me to view properly on my 17" laptop screen.
May I suggest you resize them before they get taken off by the mods.
Largest side allowed is 1024 and 300kb.

Yours is 1728 and 330+ :-)

How silly of me, first time I have done this so I didn't know there was limits.

Anyway they have all been resized, hope this is satisfactory for the mods

They're nice shots - but the backgrounds are a little bit busy. I think insect shots work best when you either have a very plain background, or a very limited DOF.

You won't see much of a difference between a 6 megapixel camera and a 9 megapixel camera - certainly nothing you would notice on a print. In fact it's possible the 9 megapixel camera would given slightly noiser images due to the increased pixel density - depending on the physical sensor size of course.

That said - you will notice a difference going from a 6 MP compact to a 6MP DSLR. Especially with low light and high ISO shots - mostly due to the size of the sensor and pixel density, and also because of the superior quality lensing.

As long as I know I'm getting what I have paid for then I am happy. I am still a few years off a DSLR at the moment but in the future I am sure I will get one to play with.
